I need to stay with ATT...the reasons are complicated...anyway, its time to upgrade. I currently have a BB9000 Bold...POS, the trackball sucks, sticks and is just not cutting it...I do need to use the phone as a modem...USB is fine...Tether is fine, but only works with BB or Android platforms...would like to go to an iphone because of the user friendly interface, but don't see an easy way to tether and use it as a modem...I am trying to save a few bucks by not having DSL....anyway, there are bundles, that give me wireless, DSL and TV...cannot understand enough to make a rational decision because, to upgrade I have to get a 2 yr contract, and all of the bundles are for 1 yr...then the price jumps...anybody else been through this? What did you do? Trying to keep the total out of pocket arounf the 85 bucks I am spending now...suggestions?

Sign another contract next year for tv/dsl. The 2 year contract is for the iphone.

Why would you offer an answer outside the perameters of the question?

At some much higher price? Makes no sense.

Well aware of that, but why do they bundle services with different expiration dates? Its like the 8 hotdogs/10 bun thing...it makes no sense.

No the plans are seperate, You have to look at them as different companies.
    1. At&t the cell phone plan
    2. At&t the media provider (TV/DSL/Home Phone service)

You're essentially purchasing 2 contracts, one on the cell phone, and one on the tv/DSL bundle. Next year when the TV/DSL bundle is ready to expire At&t reps will be calling you trying to get you to renew for another year at a reduced price.

You can tether the iPhone 4 just as easily as you can with an Android or RIM phone.

The only problem is ATT will only let you tether if you pay $20 a month extra.

If you want to have an iPhone, and tether without a monthly fee, there is a way to get you tethering over WiFi for one $20 payment instead.

It depends on how badly you want an iPhone.

It really boils down to what you think is a better fit for you.

I like my iPhone, but I also like doing things to it that annoy Apple.

Regardless of the mudslinging between the smart phone camps, there are good things and bad things for all of them.
