I would like to know if you really need to change your timing belt at three years ? My car has 2,000 miles on it (2003 360) ?

Hi, I understand that Bulletin No. 1215 says that independent Model year, timning beslt must be reploaced every 30,000 miles or 3 years, whichever comes first.

I thought Federal Law requires 5 years on drivetrain, and the belts fall within that law. Does the dealer pick up the tab for that?

A lot of people will tell you (and I'm one of them) that doing only 2,000 miles in 3 years is harder on the timing belt (and the rest of the car for that matter) than driving it 30,000 miles in 3 years. Belts take a set, seals dry out and crack, internal engine parts rust because they're not getting regular baths in oil.

    Change the belt.

And drive your car more. Best thing you can do for it.

Something like that but timing belts are not part of the "drivetrain" under the strict interpretation.

Replace the belts - no question. Why run the risk? You're gonna have to do it anyway so why wait?
