This is a continuation of the timing belt and bearing change on my 84 Euro QV posted here. http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=273037

I stripped down the car and was able to pull both Timing belt covers off to examine the timing belts and tensioners. I took a couple of shots of the belts in their current state which look good. What is everyone take the slack\deflection seen in these belts with 3 years 1500 miles?

They do loosen as they run in, but I can't say how loose is normal. I just did mine and I was surprised by how loose they were, but I didn't have any basis for comparison so that's not worth much.

I would put some rotational force on the damper nut (CW) while checking the tension on the "pulling" side of the belts. As I recall, you're not supposed to retension the belts.

Interesting how Ferrari made an access hole in the belt covers to get to the tensioner bearing bolt - seems to suggest that re-tensioning the belt is an acceptable step, despite what might be said in the WSM. Unless of course, the idea here is to set an initial tension on the belt when replacing the belt, reinstall the covers, run it for a few minutes then re-tension the belt with the covers in place. HHhhmmmm....

    Hello from Germany,

this is not the common method of checking a belt's tension if you don't have special tools. A popular and well tried method is this:
If you can twist the belt around 90° with two fingers on the driving side ( pulling side ) you're good.

    Best Regards
