Alright, well its out. After 7 yrs going on 8 of running and no headaches, the fun begins. The motor is out. List of things to do aside from the belts.

    1) Since its an 86tr with 56,000kms Im spending the extra money to look into the diff. I think its time to see whats going in there.
    2) All the hoses are original, all of them look ok, but they need to hit the garbage can....its time....new hoses throughout.
3)Since the 2001 clutch i did, its time to take a small peek in there as well.

Here are the before shots, cant wait to have her back in and ready for the summer of 2007. I will be posting pics thorughout the process to see what i find and report back. So far aside from the standard oil sweat everywhere from every ferrari casket the alternator belt was missing a few teeth. Next week i will be inspecting the belts and water pump.
Keep in mind i did the major back in Dec 99, so in gonna at it again to see the real test after my own personal 8th yr.
    Enjoy !
(Hope this helps my fellow fchatters with feedback)

    Hey Red,
    That place looks familiar :)

Open house for our place today (and tomorrow), I might use that as opportunity to drop in and take a look for myself. I have to be out and about anyway.

If you're gonna replace the cam seals, it's not a bad time to detail the entire engine/trans (repaint the "testarossas" w/wrinkle paint). I recommend using OEM style cam cover gaskets (green w/red sealing stripe). There are cheaper aftermarket ones that I've used on these cars, but they don't always stay put and are more likely to leak.

Thats a given....its gonna look like it came from the factory from new when its done from a cosmetic stand point. The real work is in taking the engine off of the tranny and looking at the diff...thats what im waiting for, i will be using all OEM part replacments....plugs, rotors, belts, caskets etc.

Gerrit, yeah, its a familar place for you ;) you know how anal that guy is when it comes to these cars so im expecting and accepting nothing less than 110% from him. Cant wait to see when its done....i have full confidence its gonna be better than ever.

Love the shrink-wrapped car in the background! For the short term where condensation is not an issue, it has got to be cheaper and more dust proof than a car cover. :D

Don't know what year the car is but if you are going to lift the motor off the trans have a look at the oil pump drive chain and if it has a master link replace it with a soild chain. Also year depending do the mod to the 1-6 bank rear belt cover to keep it from sawing through the next belt.

From the pics I can see it is an earlier car. Check the oil pump chain.

To RIFLEDRIVER: What modification needs to be done to the rear belt cover for the 1-6 bank? I have never heard about this issue and would truly like to know about it...

Says someones been in there before already. Most likely that was the reason since it was an update on the car. Thanks for that Brian.

Picture 3 post 16. The subcontractor changed the materials without informing Ferrari. They went from a glass fiber reinforced material to a more ordinary plastic that distorted under heat exposure. That bridge piece behind the tensioner bearing connecting the 2 ends of the guard can warp inward and rub the belt doing it some damage. Have seen it many times. We were supposed to inspect the cars and if they had it take a wire coat hanger heat it red and reach up there and cut it out. I still see them from time to time that have not been done.

This car is early enough that the guards are prob still the glass fiber variety.

You are Correct Sir, I just got confirmation. He has only seen one where it came warped and was about to go into the belts. He advised mine were fine, not a marking on it, and the clearence is fine.

Thank you Brian for your vast knowledge to others and myself to understand these things better !!
