Was it him or his team rolling the dice by not pitting him, slicks do not work too well with water, either way it very nearly paid off, and I would imagine he finished in a better position staying out.

No, Ferrari cost Ferrari a championship. The whole season was not decided by him having the wrong tires on in the rain. Its absolutely ridiculous to think that he was the reason you could point to that cost them everything. Every race before that had just as much influence on the championship as that one did.

IMO, Felipe was the rightful champion that year. The real reason he and the team were robbed of a championship was because the pewter Ferrari was allowed to race and the "promised" inspection of the McLaren pre-season by the FiA never happened.

Timo went down in my opinion in the manner in which he capitulated without any semblance of resistance. Reminded me of those dogs you see who immediately capitulate by laying down and rolling over.

This is ridiculous, you can't fight with slicks(grooved) in the rain vs a car with inters on. He made the correct strategy decision from his point as if he had pitted he would have likely ended up in 7th and not 6th where he finished.

Man if anyone deserved a better deal then they got its Kamui. Seriously can anyone point to the reason that his career is taking a nose dive and that Sergio is getting a McLaren seat? The world of F1 is not a logical place at all.

For starters it wasn't raining and there was already a dry line. Had Glock even made a half hearted attempt to defend the position, at the barest minimum force both cars to go around the outside there would have been a much better chance that only Vettel (I think it was Vettel or maybe Alonso?) would have made it around and had he kept Hamilton behind him on that last corner it was a straight out drag to the finish line and the Toyota was pretty handy in that dept. Glock's later admission that he bet on races just raised more questions about his complete last lap.

As to your point that your "can't" fight for position when someone has more grip than you, well, I'm just glad you weren't providing advise to Nando in Malaysia last year :)

Having said all that, IMO the real culprits of '08 were the gutless FiA and I consider Felipe the Champion driver of that year.

I may be wrong, but I really thought it wasn't raining at the time of the pass. My point however was that whilst it is harder to defend when the guy behind is faster or has more grip its not impossible. And, certainly, Timo capitulated to two drivers on one corner giving them the easiest pass possible. Had he forced Vettel to work in even the most minor way it way have meant losing only one position at that one corner instead of giving up two places. Whatever you think, at that corner on that day Timo capitulated in the most subservient manner.

Bernie will be pleased. He wants the number of teams on the grid down anyway. Will they last another year?? Odd are against.

Clearly shows a drying line. Not actively raining, but water being thrown up in the air from the track.

Having said that, even though I was pulling for Massa, I don't think there was much Timo could have done short of taking out LH.

REMEMBER, LH KNEW WHAT WAS AT STAKE. Do you really think he would have failed to get around Glock?

For the sake of argument, lets say it was clearly a wet track.

As for Glock, you can see as soon as he attempts to hit the throttle with any force his back end steps out, he was a sitting duck, I really don't think he could have taken Ham out even if he wanted to.

It was lap of the gods stuff that. Just what Bernie wanted for his show with help from Mosley the XXX-rated rat.

Only thing that bothers me is that that would be a natural seat for mr Petrov, who is arguably even more useless.

Not strictly true though IMO. As I've often said, task #1 is to beat your 'mate. Doesn't matter what you're driving, you do that consistently and keep your nose clean (crashers don't generally last long) and you'll get noticed by the big guys.

OTOH, he's now been around a *long* time - Experience counts, but I guess he's done.

    Cheers,
    Ian

I'd be fine watching just 4 teams—Ferrari, RB, McLaren & Lotus having at it all year...

all these backmarkers / "participants" tagging along for the ride brings zero spectator value to me, well until one of them causes a spectacular crash or does some F1 acrobatics into the wall then my panties get wet.

    :( I hope that's "tongue in cheek"?

    With all due respect, I find that quite sad on many levels;

    - 8 cars would suck!
    - The midfielders and even the tail end Charlie's have their own battles all down the grid - Particularly when there's a dominant front runner these battles are the most interesting things going; I enjoy a good fight for the last point paying spot for example.
    - Who's gonna be "best of the rest"?
    - Who's moving forward/backward? Williams, FI, Sauber etc are all essential to the overall health of the sport IMO. Even the newbies at the back are trying their best and have worked damn hard to even be there. - Simply getting a point is a huge achievement. [Don't ask me how I know ;)]

    Cheers,
    Ian

Those are midfielders, those are cool. I was referring to backmarkers like Marussia, Caterham and the former HRT. And I was also thinking of a 3-car team inside my head =D

Only things I remember about these "participants" from 2012:
    • Kovalainen bursting into flames in the tunnel at Monaco
    • Karthikeyan sending Nico airborne in Abu Dhabi
    • Vergne doing that epic wheelie in Monza
    • Karthikeyan's fw puncturing Vettel's tire in Malaysia
    • Sadly, only thing I can remember about Marussia is that tragic accident costing Maria's eye

Anything else you can remember as a spectator for these outfits?
