I have seen a lot of great posts of rear light conversions on a 348 but even though I think this is probably the only part of the 348 that looks worse than the Testarossa or 355, I could never wrap my head around ruining the classic look of the rear end somehow.

I thought that maybe tinting the rear lights with black or red foil might improve the look to focus the optics more on the epic rear-grill than the yellow and white plastic of the lights underneath. Has one of you guys tried that and can recommend one or the other?

OEM 348 tail lights are very expensive, NLA and are only available when existing units are made available.

Personally, I love everything about the 348's tail lights. Except... see my comment above. :(

The 348 tail lights are one of the best things about the car. Keep em as is. They look great.

Personally I love everything about the 348 just the way it is.....even the side and rear strakes.....and wheels! I have a 92 TS. Having said that, I was behind one in traffic the other night and I must say the visibility from the rear was terrible at best. Old incandescent bulbs and the rear strakes really cuts probably 50% of the lighting from the rear which is really quite dangerous especially when braking. I really like what Boxcar did to his rear but I'm hesitant to hack up the strakes cuz there's no turning back but it looks awesome! But if it prevents you from getting rear-ended then it is worth it a thousand times over. There was a guy on fchat last year who got rear-ended in broad daylight at a stoplight in at 348...kind of makes you wonder.

Best is to try to find a damaged rear grille like I did and hang your OEM piece on the wall :)

I patched up some versions in Photoshop that I think beat the OEM look, but will definitely wait until there are some replacement OEM lights on the market so I can make sure that there’s a way back to its original look. Especially if I would choose to go all in and have someone build something like the version with the thin white rear lights...

In that case the new build should also be LED‘s to prevent the rear-ending story mentioned above

Leave it as it was meant to be. It's one of the great things that make 348's unique. I for one always liked 348's - as is from the factory.

Retrofitting LED boards in the OEM housings will not be an easy undertaking and will mean slicing up perfectly good housings to make them fit. Then you’ll have to find a way to make those LED boards easily removable from the housing. Damaged ones will either be melted or cracked so no good.
If you want to keep the OEM housings and want the most visibility, simply install LED bulbs throughout and perhaps install a Serie Speciale rear setup.

I just realized that you were referring to the pic I posted and not my current setup. That’s an OEM SS grille with proper spacers and end caps.
