has anyone successfully done/had this done?
I've seen an F355 with tinted windows, it makes the car look cheap IMO. I greatly prefer the clear glass, it suits the car much better. Rob
agreed 100% however was just curious as to why ppl dont get the rear window tinted...I saw one here at the local Ferrari dealer (as well as few other examples) where the side windows tinted..but the rear one not being done. Im thinking maybe it has something to do with the curved plastic perhaps. http://www.autohebdo.net/a/Ferrari/355/MONTR%C3%89AL/Qu%C3%A9bec/5_10595734_CT2004414113131706/
I had my car tinted when I bought it. They did the rear windscreen in 3 sections because of the shape, it was very hard to make it out of one piece they said. But if they did a few, I am sure they would eventually get it right from one piece of tint. I think some on the board here have theirs tinted and they used one piece of tint. looks nice. Another problem we have here in Quebec is they only allow something like 8% tint on the front windows...and I've never liked the 2 tone tints, darker rear & lighter front. Sucks to live in Canada...sometimes...LOL
The problem is, tinting guys dont have tools to get into the back corners, there's no room for a hand and a squeegee back in there! My door and quarter windows are tinted in 30% (not very dark) but in the tinting capital of the west (Las Vegas) I can't find anyone that can do the back window. I've had over a dozen cocky "I can tint anything" guys tell me to bring the car in and let them look at it, notta ONE has even attempted to TRY and do it.
I had the same response of "can't tint the back window...too deep to reach the corners". Finally found a place that actually removed the glass, tinted it on the bench, then replaced it. I was a new owner at the time, so didn't fully appreciate how expensive it would have been if they had ruined any part of the glass or seals! They did a great job, though. I only went medium all around, so not quite as dark as PAP's car. Looking at his car, by the way, I can't really tell "one piece" (which I have) versus "three piece" film. So I don't think that's such a big deal. If you can find someone to tint the back glass one way or another, go for it. Oh, and I too am shocked that no one in Vegas will tackle that job!!!! John
You cannot tell my rear window has a 3-piece tint job. Looks VERY good and I dont exactly know where the joins are. I never asked.
I couldn't see tinting the windows on any F-car...part of the enjoyment is being SEEN in the car. However, there are a few companies out there that offer colorless tint that will cut out the heat and UV penetration.
I did the tint myself 1 piece tint only but it was very challenging and difficult. It can be done if tinter is very patient.
Yeah that's one of the things I actually dislike about driving the car...ppl staring and seeing me in the car. Call me crazy but its really not my thing. I bought the car coz its one of the best Ferraris ever made, not coz its just any Ferrari or that I wanna show off. I would have gotten a Lambo if I wanted to pose (no disrespect to Lambo owners)
