Here's a story with a happy ending. I own one of the neglected, poster child Ferraris from the 80s. It's a Mondial cab, which doesn't engender much love and respect outside of the Mondial sub-forum here, where you will find the nicest bunch of gear heads ever.

So - anyway, I was plugging along in that sub-forum, and came across by accident a set of campaigns regarding my car. The person who referenced the campaign mentioned the year of my production and tho it's coming up on 30 years old, he still had the documentation in the form of a very old scan of some very old letters with the campaign, the service details, the customer letters, and the VIN list. Pure gold!

I asked for a copy from that poster, and he provided it poste-haste. Which I then scanned carefully, found my VIN, and contacted Ferrari of Dallas about the campaigns. They contacted FNA on my behalf, and FNA at first advised that my VIN was not subject to the recall. However, they offered to perform a vehicle inspection of my old mess and see that the safety items had been addressed. Since I'm a long way from their shop, I put that off at first. I advised Ferrari of Dallas that I had the VIN list, customer letter, and campaign details. I emailed it right over, and the next day I heard from the service manager at Ferrari of Dallas.

I was expecting another denial of coverage, or an excuse to get around what I considered very serious safety issues, but that was not the case at all. The service manager advised me that 'on March 6, 1985 my VIN had been inspected and repaired at Ferrari of N Hollywood CA, which is no longer in business but they recorded the details of the compliance with Ferrari NA and that record is still there'.

Well, I have to say I was very surprised, and elated that the car was road-worthy, and that they were able to verify the info from 27 years ago. So - thanks to FNA, Ferrari of Dallas and my helpers and friends in the Mondial forum. I can once again terrorize the streets of TX knowing that my car won't explode, or drive itself into oncoming traffic.
