tips for unbuilding 308 GT4 dash board

Did someone has experience with removing the aluminum instrument plate out of the GT4 dash board?
Although removing the steering wheel and "easying" the little control plates either side, the steering column still prevents to pull it away, and I am afraid to dammage the clock setting pin that collides with the column.
Is this really necessary to remove the steering column to perform this operation, which I thought to be super straight forward at first glance?

I've done it a couple of times.
(1) Remove steering wheel. Just mark it's location and remove the cap screws holding it to the hub.
(2) Locate the bolt for adjusting the shaft up and down just under the dash. Loosen it and push the shaft as far down as it will go.
(3) Remove the cap screws holding the dash and carefully pull it out. Be especially careful at the bottom, where the sharp gauge mounting hardware can rip the dashboard material.

I did it and it was the hardest thing I ever did except put it back, maybe I am thing about taking the clock out without unhooking everything else, but I am a wimp....

get some towels out and thatway you can sit it on the towel without the sharp edges cutting the venial!

I need (I think) just to remove the left hand panel to get to the ventilation connections. I've checked under the bonnet (hood) and the cables are securely connected there so presumably must be slipping at the lever end.

Can I remove the left hand panel just by undoing the one allen screw and will that give me access to the lever/cable connection?
