There is a blacked out car I need to take pictures off . All I use is a non-DSLR camera ( Canon PowerShot S3IS ) + polarizer . So my question would be - what is the difference between good and bad black car picture ? Where is the border ? What should I look for ?

I find the biggest thing to worry about with a black car is reflections. Black cars are like mirrors. It’s good that you have a polarising filter. You can use it to alter the reflections on the car.
If you’re handy with Photoshop you can add several shots together to beat the reflections. See this thread. http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=213236

If you want lots of reflections, make sure they are good reflections, the sky, clouds, flat colour (solid wall). Try not to get poles, lines on the road, people… etc

As for what makes a good shot, that’s subjective. Try some different locations. See what you think works. Do a search through the showroom threads and see what you think works as a photo.

And always double check the auto focus if your using it or you might not have a choice, AF systems use contrast between colors to focus so on a completely black car you might have problems getting the focusing right.
