Doing my annual service and noticed tires are getting a bit low 2-3/32's. Stuck between these two tires for the stock 18" starfish wheels (Potenza sport vs PS5). They are similarly priced and similarly reviewed and was looking to see if anyone had any further insight into these tires (sidewall characteristics, grip, etc.) Currently have Bridgestone Potenza S-02A on the car which as I understand is rather obsolete.

Need more info on how the car is driven.

Do you drive the car in sub-40F weather? In snow?

Mountain drives, track days, just tootling around town?

Only 50+ Degree Fahrenheit days, and avoid rain whenever possible

I drive fairly spiritedly when I do take and car out and it is warmed up, might try to get to a track day next year. Occasionally I might do a 30min to an hour highway trip. I am not really worried about tire wear as 8-10k miles would take me about 5 years.

Advan A052 if you want ultimate grip. Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 for slightly better streetability. Both hold up exceptionally well to track / spirited driving.

You'll be amazed at the performance level of the car with proper, modern sticky tires.

Do they carry those in 215/45/18 and 275/40/18?

You can go 225/40/18 on the fronts as almost no one makes sporty tires in 215/45/18. Fits just fine, no rubbing or issues with ASR.

    Rears I did 275/40/18.

Ah ok, for the rears I have had no trouble finding sizes. Have you had any issues with the thinner sidewall on the front wheel? (potholes etc.)

I had zero issues. 40 section sidewall is still very thick compared to a lot of modern cars and the track day tires like the A052 and PSC2 have a stronger sidewall construction too.

Difference in sidewall is 3.5" vs. 3.8". Still meaty.

Got it, I used to have yokohamas on my Evo and 3000GTs so I am very familiar with the stiff sidewall. I will look into the A052s, I was considering them earlier but they fell off my list due to the sizing difference.

I think PS5 is the successor to PS4, but not to the PS4S. The PS4 and 5 are still high performance but not to the level of the PS4S.

Affirmative, not really a Ferrari tire.

Thank you all for the feedback, Michelin has been somewhat confusing with the nomenclature. I had no idea until now that the PS4S was the successor to the pilot super sports. That explains a lot.

Hopefully the PS5S will come out about the time my PS4S tires wear out.

Update: Got the PS4S a few weeks ago in 225/40/18 and 285/35/18, fitment is great. Looks like the car should have come with these tires to begin with. No ABS/ASR lights no issues at all. Perform excellent and the ride is much improved over the Bridgestone S-02A tires that were on the car before. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

Great tires. Have them on my 575M. 32 psi all around seems to work well for V8s and V12s.

I have yet to find the grip limit on these tires, found it quite easily on the S-02As. Also surprised that the car rides almost as well as my LS400 now. I was a Michelin skeptic before (why pay $3-500 more for a set of tires over bridestone/yokohama, etc.) but I now understand and am a believer.

I run Michelin on all my vehicles, even work trucks....I get the extra costs out of them every time.
