I'll pass this on to the families of My friends who were killed due to a driver losing control of his car because he thought driving on worn out tyres was a good idea! - I'm sure your attitude will come as a great comfort to them!
A good message for all to be conscious about tire wear. Watch the inside wear boys. It's tough to see. If anyone has a good tire that delivers performance and endurance, your suggestion is welcomed. Thank you "good Chap Phil" for your generous public service announcement.
True statement on the inside wear ... On the rear end. When I had my 328 I used to glance at it as I would bend over, after a spirited drive one day on the back roads chasing a 355 I got on my knees and looked. Belt and wire on the inside 1" of the rear, that was a really bad feeling as I had the GF in the car. Not a good feeling at all, and not to be repeated.
Sorry, I have objective experience that that's not necessarily true. We ran better lap times on our direzzas when they were closer to slicks on track vs when they were new (which was more a function of the drivers knowing the track better than the tires being better). I can take a picture of the tread if you'd like to see them, but they certainly did not become dangerous, they stuck as well as new or very close to it and they have little to no tread left. Those are 200 tread wear street tires fwiw.
I've got 6k miles, including a track day and a couple of autocross on my conti extreme dw tires and have well over half tread left.
Inside tyre wear on the rear tyres really isn't hard to see at all! - Simply bend/crouch/lay on the floor behind your car (your choice - whichever you prefer), and look at the condition of the tyres! - It really is that simple! Oh! - And allow Me to publicly thank you for the abusive and slightly racially motivated PM that you kindly sent Me! As a "prissy, winey European" who needs "a good old fashion ass kicking once in a while" , It's always nice to read how superior your race is! (BTW, "Otta" is a Norwegian Town who as far as I'm aware, have no links to Me whatsoever. If the term you were looking for was "ought to remember" rather than "otta remember", then it would suggest that your own personal superiority might not be as great as you suggest it is! ). As for signing off with: "**** you", well to be accurate, there should really be an exclamation mark after "you", and to be honest, I seriously doubt that you're My type in any way shape or form, so thank you for the invitation but I'm afraid I shall have to respectfully decline your generous offer!
you need to chill, don't post you wear street tires to the wire and expect there not to be some advice. 4rePhill was nice and respectful about it too. FYI true street tires with little tread are the fastest because of more rubber contact and less rotational weight. Tread are only needed for the wet/dirt traction too. However, never run a tire on the wires as it is likely to blow and then kill you and someone else. I know because I have had long races or didn't notice the wire before session. You should see threads well before you see wires though!
