Tire rules

They will still change tires IIRC they still have to use the prime tire and the option tire for at least 1 stint during the race. There will no longer be any refueling during the pit stops.

 

I have also read that the front tires are going to be narrower then one used last year.

 

The tire rules are the same except for the following:


Wheel covers which have been used by the teams since 2006 are banned for 2010.

The front tyres will be narrowed from 270mm to 245mm to aid better grip balance.

 

Does that mean that tire warmers of any kind will be banned?

I am curious to see how that can work with slicks; by construction their thread is uncurred rubber that needs to be brought up to temperature to prevent "chunking". .

I thought that they were going to be banned for the 2010 season, but currently on the F1 website, there is only mention of the narrower front tires.

 

I would be shocked if tire warmers were outlawed. All that will happen is you will have tire warming "rooms" kept at 150-200 degrees instead of individual warmers.

 

Not tirewarmers, hubcaps. Remember the Renault problems?

 

I suppose that if the FIA goes that way, it's "tire warming" in general that will be outlawed, and not tire warmer blankets only.
Hopefully the FIA will have writen their rules so that there is no 'interpretation' possible.

But from a technical point of view, I will be curious to see how that works.

 

I'm glad they banned those ugly fairings. Not only it discourages overtaking, I trully miss the sight of glowing disc brakes!

As for the prime-option tyre, it's a stupid rule, IMO. Just let them run which tyre suits them best.

 

not stupid at all (like you, just IMO). it adds some important strategy, and it keeps the drivers honest -- you have to be able to drive the car well when the tires aren't what you'd like.

 

Yes, if you look at it that way. IMO, the drivers should always push the car, not push first, then conserve it during the later part of the race, or vice versa.

Having said that, one of the reasons FIA introduced this was actually to improvise overtaking. Other than Sato's move on Alonso in Canada '07, and Kubica VS Vettel Aussie last year, i fail to see the logic of this move by the FIA actually.

 

who is the tire supplier?

 

For 2010 Bridgestone, I believe.

Their contract terminate at the end of the year.
