This was also posted in the Tech section, but for those that do not spend much time there, I thought it best to post twice for the best amount of answers.

I screwed up! I needed new rear tires. I HAD Bridgestone 255/45 ZR17's on the rear. Three tire dealers in town and one internet dealer could not find them. I called Big-O (Have a friend there and always get killer deals). I told him the tire I needed to replace and stated a substitute which turned out to be a BF Goodrich 255/45 ZR17. Either I did not pay much attention to my friend regarding the brand, or he did not tell me. I noticed the BFG's after a drive this afternoon.

Regarding the drive, the handling was SCARY! The car seemed to oversteer a bit and seemed kinda light on the front end. I went into one moderate turn on the HWY today about 75 and thought I was going to get killed. My old, balding rear tires seemed MUCH MUCH safer!

What's the fix here. Toss the BFG's or get a front set that matches them (In the 215/15 R17)?

PS: Please don't suggest that I get some BOMB tire that costs $400 each!

Are you sure you had 225's on the rear? It should be a 255.

Heck, if balding's the problem, get you a few bottles of Rogaine and wipe it on those tires for a couple of weeks. ;)

Are you sure your rears are 225? I don't know if they would fit on rear rim of a 348.

Do a search on 348 handling, but others have had similar experience. On a 348 you can't just replace the rears. It seems to unbalance the car somehow. You need to replace all 4 tires.

Fronts should be 225/50/17 and rears should be 255/45/17. If you cahnge sizes it also seems to unbalance the car somehow.

I have 265's on the rear and 235's on the front all on 19 rims, all yokohama's tires and I don't have any problems on my 93 348tbss.
