My rear tires (Pirellis) had to be replaced after 13k kilometers. I have never tracked the car, I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times I floored it from a standing start.

Is 13K kilometers (approx 6k miles) the expected life of rear tires on a 430?

It's actually about 8K miles and that's about right for the pirellis. I went through two sets and switched to Michelins which I can tell already will last much longer.

Do you want long life or max performance? It is a tradeoff. My turbo 911 would get 4k miles on the rear... PS2'S ! 8K miles is great. I just put PZERO CORSA'S on my 430 knowing they wont last as long but they sure do grip!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pirellis stick very well but wear like candles. Never got more than 6000 or so out of them in a good year. I switched to Michelin PS2's and never looked back. Sticky, quiet, wear is excellent well into double figures depending on use. Check Tirerack for wear ratings.

I have about 6.5K miles on my 430's OE Bridgestones. The rears are certainly down a bit, but they're hanging in there. I estimate getting about 10K out of the rear tires. In general, I'm pretty easy on the car. I mostly accelerate on a roll, not off the line.

Also, no matter which tires you choose, tire wear is best when the car's alignment is within spec. If it's been a while since your car's had one, it's probably a good idea. When I had my 430 aligned, the rear toe was out by a good amount (2800 miles from new). Tires (plus mounting) are too expensive to let a poor alignment wear them out before you do.

PS2s. RobD also makes a good point. There is significant evidence that many cars are delivered with alignments out of spec. I read about this and had mine checked and they were out also.

Wow, I must be real easy on my 430, I have 12,800 miles on my original equipment Pirellis!
They are worn but not down to the wear bars yet. They don't grip like they used to for sure though.

You make a good point about having the alignment checked. I will be back at the dealership next week, I will have them check it.

On a completely different subject... I was also told by the service manager at the dealership that my muffler failed, to be more precise the welds that attach the muffler have failed on both sides. Good thing that I have an extended warranty on the car. Has anyone else experienced a similar failure?

    I agree.

Sure, a heavy foot can burn up rear tires in no time, but 3K miles is way too low to be considered normal, IMO.
