I need new tires for my 308. I dropped by a friends tire shop and he recommended a set of Cooper Zeon 2XS 'W' rated tires (225/50R16 91V). The fronts are $100 each and the rear's are $115 each. I trust these would be decent tires for this car. Any comments?

You don't stagger those sizes for a mid engine car? Same size all (around225/50R16 91V)? I'd go for 215 and 235 (front to rear) width then take a look at available profile sizes with tires. Also, do you need that speed rating or could you come down some?

225 front 245 rear are OEM for 16 inch wheels on a 308. carb or QV

205 front, 225 rear would be cool, as long as you dont have the euro spoiler! :) i am leaning towards the dark side........ Compomotive 17 inch "288GTO" wheels. i am back / forth between 16 or 17 though.

i had Kuhmo ( ? sp) tires on my 78 308 they were great tires. i went with a low speed rating as there is nowhere to run much over 80 and i dont track my cars. all 4 with road hazard and life time balance for $260.00. then i sold the car!!! :) the red GTB shall get new wheels and tires............ if i dont need a clutch ! :)

I would use a 225 front and 245 or 55 rear on Kumhos if you want to save some money, or Potenzas if you want a great tire and do not care as much about cost.

I apologize for not seeing the thread earlier.

On my '83 308 QV, I have been running Dunlap SP Sport 8000 on the street and some track use and Kumho V700 for track and slalom. ( 225/50/ZR16 on front, 245/45/ZR 16 on rear). Rather please with the performance on both accounts. Good tires at a reasonable price.

I've driven PAD's car with the Dunlop SP Sport's on, and I can attest that they do handle great. Have not driven it on the track yet with the Kuhmos. One of these days. ;-)

I recently picked up a set of 16" wheels for my '84 Mondial QV, and they came with 205/55VR16 front and 225/50VR16 rear Yokohama Avid V4's. They are great on the street, and have tracked and slalomed them as well and they did nicely. I'm leaning toward a set of Kuhmos for track use, though, especially if I get ambitious and do some suspension upgrades to the car over the winter.

One thing you have to consider with any tire combination is the width of your rims. Different sizes and makes of tires require different rim widths. If you put an overly wide tire on a too narrow rim, your performance will be negatively affected. Places like Tire Rack offer information on the recommended range of wheel widths for specific tire sections. Note that the same size tire from different manufacturers may carry a recommendation of a different width rim for maximum performance. The rim widths you have will definitely dictate what size tire is optimal for you, within a range.

I should have mentioned that the Kumhos were shaved and heat cycled. When it comes time to replace them, I will most likely buy Hoosiers.

I also recommend the Yokohoma AVS ES100's. My brother in law picked up a set for his Miata, and he has been enamored with them. Great in the rain, very good in the dry, and he said they're not too loud either. Plus, they're CHEAP :)

I put Bridgestone Fusions on mine. 245/225. I haven't driven it much since the change, but I'm impressed so far. The 308 seems to handle better than my 328 which had Toyo T1Ss.

I think four Fusions from Tire Rack were about $430 with freight.

Thanks for everyone's help. I got the Bridgestone Fusions today and really like how they handle. It's a completely different riding car now. $451 out the door.............And the entertainment value of watching the guys demount two tires because they put a rear tire on the front wheel!

Please tell me that the sprinklers came on and you did not drive that beautiful car in the rain!

    Hi Peter,
Let's see how you like this response to your posting (all in good fun). I knew where I was parking, relative to the sprinkler system. I did not, however, know when the skies would let loose. I took the picture with the droplettes because - it's different (don't you think?). Trust me, I made more passes with fresh baby diapers than a cabbie cruising for fares at LAX!!

Anyway, Feliz Navidad & Cheers, Hank

Excellent choice. Little soft sidewall, though. I believe the best all around tire is the Pilot Sport PS2 Michellin's.

Kumho Ecsta MX tires here. About $100 each from tire rack. Great tires, I've used them on both road and track.

Thanks for posting the very nice pic of your Mondial.

You do realize, however that the FBI or CIA or DEA or SOMEBODY will likely kidnap your dog, or your family or both, for getting the car wet, even though by now it has melted into a fetid pool. :)

Another vote for MPS's... but in my case the low-cost supplier was Costco (in Canada). Might be worth checking out.

Costco -- here at least -- only fills with pure nitrogen.

    Thoughts?
