Interesting to note that Michelin (along with Bridgestone) are listed as tire suppliers for 458, with no mention of Pirelli. See "Partners" on 458 site.

Don't remember Michelins being available on Ferraris recently - except for P4/5 ;)

    Why the change in supplier?

I completely agree!! I found an article about the 458 where luca di montezemelo says that the 458 is everything Italy is. So why use non-Italian tire suppliers?!

If I could even afford a 458 first thing I would do is remove the Michelins, a car I own will never have Michelins.

Any company that can pull off the cluster it did at Indy doesn’t deserve a cent of my money and I’ve actually gone to lengths to have other people not even at Indy to use another tire.

Because Luca is an AC Milan fan. He must be pissed at Moratti (Pirelli, Inter) right now.

Personally I would accept whichever tyres the car runs best on.

In retrospect I think Michelin were a little unlucky with misjudging the track surface at Indy. Goodyear had the same problem in the taxi series last year (but as the sole supplier can get the organisers to throw cautions every ten laps so the race can keep going). Bridgestone always had the advantage as they has the information from the Indy 500.

Also it was often said that Ferrari road cars were best on Michelins notably the 550 until the option was dropped due to F1 commitments to Bridgestone.

PS2s are one of the best street tires for the track you can buy. I bet the Ferrari will be running PS2s.

Pirelli and Bridgestone are junk compared to Michelin tires. It is time to get over "Indy" and move on. The reason that more Michelin tires aren't used as original equipment is that they don't discount their product to the car companies as much as Bridgestone/Pirelli/Goodyear/Dunlop etc. If Michelin doesn't make a good tire, why is it that Audi/Corvette/Ferrari/Porsche teams in ALMS have dominated on them?

Michelin used to supply tires to Ferrari. No biggie.

And yes, Michelin grinds my gears. Way to push back Rob

    Are you sure?

As far as I know he is a Bologna fan even though he briefly worked as a manager in Juventus.

    Sorry for the off-topic.

Every mile driven on inferior tires is a wasted mile. The Michelin PS2 is a stellar street tire and is the optimal choice for OEM equipment.

Considering the significant effect tires have on acceleration, braking, and handling, it would appear ill-advised to settle for anything less for any reason other than affordability.

do you put slicks on your street car or at least DOT R's?

Slicks/DOT-Rs are not appropriate for the street, IMO. I would strongly consider R-Comps if I were in sunny SoCal (instead I'm in partly sunny/mostly cloudy Northeast).

There are better choices out there than the PS2 currently, it is really starting to show its age.
