Standard tires 225/40/18 at the front, 265/40/18 at the rear. As most will know, the profile is a percentage of the width, therefore the profile is larger on the rear compared to the front? Any ideas why?

I ask as there seems to be a great selection of tyres of size 265/35/18 and was thinking of going that route?

    Any thoughts?

Rear wheel drive plus mid rear-mid-engined dictates more meat in the rear than that front. Also, in 1995 a 40 series tire was considered extremely low profile.

265/35/18 is an inch shorter, will be lots of gap.

It’ll also screw up your gearing and speedometer.

as was mentioned above, in 1994 a 40 profile was almost as low as you could go with commercially available tyres and 18” was considered huge.

The greater the profile (measured in inches) the greater the pothole dent resistance.
