I am not sure what I just did. After collection 1:18's for years I suddenly bought 11 AWESOME IXO 1:43 Ferrari's. They are gorgeous. F40 Lemans Car, F50 and 355B roads cars, classic 250P Le Mans cars, two 375's, two drop dead gorgeous BBLM's! and even the 54 Lemans winning TR1.

The old myth is that one should stick with the same scale...I say screw em' ;)

    Enjoy the crappy pics.

Nah...you're not crazy at all. I've got a large collection of 1:18s as well, but once upon a time I up and bought 6 or 7 333SPs in 1:43 off eBay and from fellow FChatters. I now have those, plus a couple other 1:43s that I've added here and there. The wife might think I'm nuts, but you and I know...

Aaron, didnt you post those 333's in the other thread? I think I saw them. That's one of my all time favourite competition cars.

Take care. Thanks for the support hehehe...

You are not alone ... I had mostly 1:18 in my collection but then started buying 1:43 in earnest since December.

I am now going to collect the best looking diecast in my budget for a given car model. Size be damned :)

I have a couple of the IXO Ferraris, and I agree they are gorgeous but there are some other good brands as well in the $20-$50 range. Guys like GTE, Mule and others gave me some good advice on each brand what they are good for ... see here: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=84989

IXO has done some really nice models, for even nicer prices! I love their 512S Codalunga, which I got from Ebay for about 15 bucks. The handbuilt Tecnomodel goes for $ 225,- retail.

Their F40 is a bit below par, but in 1:43 F40´s nothing can compare to the Make Up Co cars. I have a yellow "competizione" on the way. Same goes for the 288 GTO.

I know I should´t really be comparing IXO to Make Up Co, since Make Up costs about 10 times as much, so don´t really pay attention to what I am saying :D

MUST RESIST THE URGE. MUST RESIST THE URGE. MUST RESIST...

Actually I broke down a while ago and in addition to 1/18 I started collecting 1/32: Slot cars

So who am I to tell you that you can't collect a different scale?
    :)

It is really a good question and one I ask myself once in a while: For me at over 100 cars in 1/18 collected it is too late to just abandon ship. OTOH I'm running out of space and there are many Ferraris in 1/43 simply not available in 1/18.

So to somebody just starting out I'd say go with 1/43. You have similar (often even better) amount of details, requires less shelf space and there is more variety.

And to those not familiar with 1/32: Check out e.g. ebay for them. You'll be surprised at the level of detail modern slot cars have. And you can actually drive them! :)

We´ve discussed 1:43 vs 1:18 earlier. Of course it is all a matter of tastes. Both scales have their advantages and disadvantages. Allthough I am a solid member of the 1:43-camp, I believe I will not resist buying the upcoming Thomson and Carrefour Daytona LM´s from Kyosho, both 1:18.

    Andreas>
Sometime ago I saw a 1:32 slotcar of the 512 Codalunga and Daytona LM (both from FLY) and I was indeed very impressed! There´s this nice box with two Scuderia Filipinetti Codalunga´s or two Thomson Daytona´s. Perhaps I will get me some of that as well, even though I don´t own a slotcartrack and don´t plan on buying one.

Recently I bought the Carrera 1/32 Daytona LM and it is gorgeously looking. However mechanically a total disaster. Transmission collapsed after a few laps and when I opened the body I saw the horrible job they did. Very un Carrera like.

I have a slot track at home complete with scenery etc. I rarely drive on it, but I do enjoy every time I walk by there just looking at it. I'm such a goof.

PS: Take a close look at the Scalextric 1/32 Sharknose slotcar. Just a stunning model. Regardless of being a slot car or not. Comes in a beautiful collector's box.

Yes, I saw the Scalextric cars at my distributor and they are drop dead gorgeous. Those sharknoses and the Daytonas. Even the Porsche competition cars etc.

But as we all have mentionned there are many great reasons to collect multi-scale cars. There are some great models I got in 1:43 that cannot be found in 1:18 such as those BBLM's.

    Thanks for the feedback guys.

Hi, I am new here. Thanks for showing us the pictures. Those 1:43 Ferrari's are spectacular! I am starting to collect too, but I have never seen the details on the 1:43 scale like these . I am sold on it now! Thanks,

i used to be an almost exclusive buyer of 1:18 model cars. then one day i got a free 1/43 car from exoto as part of a catalog subscription. at first, i didn't do anything about it, as i loved 1:18. then one day i took a long look at the model and decided i sort of liked the size--bought a few more and got hooked. so hooked, in fact, that now i almost never buy 1:18 cars, sticking almost exclusively to 1:43. the handbuilts are especially nice and especially expensive. 1:43s are easier to store too.

i really got hooked into 1/43 too. i have collected a lot of 1/18 for years( autoart mostly), and then one day i saw those beautiful 1/43 BBR models at a shop in Beverly hills and i just had to start collecting 1/43.
now i only collect 1/43 because there are so many different ones to get, and doesn't take up big spaces. it's very pricey compare to 1/18s but to me it's worth it.

IXO has released a 1/43 ferrari F1 collection with one car from each year in really nice packaging with a booklet for each if anyone wants to do their own version of the display... i think it's going to be about 1 car every month.
