Very nice gesture Bruce. Evacuated New Orleans a couple of days ago and hoping that the electricity gets back online ASAP. New Orleans dodged a HUGE bullet, but others not so lucky.
Thanks brother Bruce. since we are on the subject of donations. If anyone would like to donate a mid to late 80's black on black 328 gtsi in good condition, I would greatly appreciate it.
If memory serves Bruce has done this on multiple occasions. He's a great guy who does what he can to help those in need. We could all learn something from Brother Bruce.
Scott: We came before those fish guys. Hahaha. Seriously though, has anyone thought about setting up a fund to help those in that area. I don't have the time to set it up, but I'd throw a few dollars at it if it would help those that have been harmed by the hurricane. Anyone have any ideas? Art
Art: You are correct buddy, "first to the Jew, then to the Gentile." (Rom. 1:16) Hey, I think your idea is great. Maybe some of the folks down in the N.O. area can tell us how we can help. I'm in if someone in the area can administer our gifts.
I can hardly believe this...no words desribe this nightmare. See below about the area I grew up in. This will certainly affect many fchatters, their families, friends, and on and on. My sister's fiance's brother, a great guy, somehow decided to ride this out in the worst place possible. No word. Feared dead. I want to wake up, but this is all too real. Also, fellow Fchatter 'Dave328' Dave Goldman claimed he was going to ride this out in his new home on the Westbank of the Mississippi right across from downtown New Orleans. His area experienced extensive flooding. Please keep him and his family in your thoughts... Sections of the Interstate 10 twin bridges linking St. Tammany and Orleans parishes over Lake Pontchartrain have been severely damaged in both directions, some probably knocked out, Louisiana's highway boss said. This is a catastrophic storm, he said. People will not get back to their homes for several weeks if not longer. Theres no message going out right now, except, Dont come back, said Dana LaFonta, a spokeswoman for Parish President Kevin Davis Sheriffs spokesman James Hartman said all entrances into the parish from Interstates 10, 12 and 59 would be closed until further notice. Even if they come back, they cant stop, Hartman said. The blockages of roadways from debris is extensive and catastrophic. He emphasized that no residents are being allowed back in to St. Tammany and anyone attempting to return is being stopped by law enforcement. The visual inspections of Ross and his photographer Mike Bland showed that Slidell has probably endured massive storm surge damage. He said Lake Pontchartrain overflowed its banks and had chest-deep water from the Lake to the Old Spanish trail exit. You cant tell where the Lake ends and Slidell begins, he said. St. Tammany Parish officials plan to send boats into the area Tuesday to assess the damage and look for survivors. I hope that he is ok. Maybe he just can't get in touch with anyone. Everything is down there, cell phones, landlines...so he would have no way to communicate out. I hope thats what it is.
I am afraid he was in a subdivision that is notorious for flooding even in minor Summer storms. I can't tell my sister or her fiance, but he is probably dead. There are animals everywhere, gators, the works. It seriously doesn't get worse than this. Esp in that area. Even if he survived the winds and trees snapping all over him, the amount of water would surely cover the house he was in. The crazy thing is that had my father not had a heart attack and quadrupple bypass surgery 2 weeks ago, he would have stayed at the hospital in Slidell, LA since he is a physician. It seems it was the only 'safe' place to be in the city. What really pisses me off is that this entire area is not even being mentioned on the TV. They just show New Orleans with its relatively minor damage, and ignore this huge loss. This area that is now a total loss is only a few miles East of New Orleans, and about 30 miles North. Just stop and think if the storm had been 40 miles East of where it was. New Orleans would cease to exist. Another sobering fact is that this area(southern Louisiana) has many people that simply lack the means to rebuild and maintain for their families after this. Any assistance that can be provided to those in the most dire of circumstances would go a long, long way.
