I have a pair of 25mm wheel spacers on back wheels. Last week I ripped a tyre (10 days old!) and made my way to a garage.
When removing the wheel they found that 3 of the Wheel Bolts that screw on to the spacers must of been screwed in with a machine at an imperfect angle. This grinded the holes the bolts fit into, and the bolts themselves. The lesson I learnt and want to share is make sure when taking your car for any service that involves removing tyres, make sure you warn that the bolts NEED TO BE SCREWED IN MANUALLY UNTIL IN PLACE, and only then tightened to correct pressure with machine. Sorry that my english does not allow me to choose the correct words at times but I think the message in general is clear.

Fasteners of all types should be started by hand.

Wheel lug bolts should have clean threads and a light coating of anti-sieze applied to them before being inserted. After they have been snugly fitted they should be tightened properly with a torque wrench, in an alternating pattern.

An impact wrench should only be used to REMOVE the bolts, never to tighten them.

I always remove my wheels from my cars and take them to the tire shop. This keeps the tire mechanics from using impact guns and cross threading the Lug Bolts or Lug nuts. I also talk to the Manager and have the manager inspect my wheels for any damage before his Guys ever touch my wheels. This keeps the Tire Guy from telling me the nicks and scrapes were already there.

    Sorry you had a problem.

Sorry to hear of this incompetence Ricardo.:rolleyes:

What spacers are you using?? Hill Engineering ones? :):)

Do you have an idea of who may have done this when you had the wheels off 10 days ago?? ;);)

Give them all call and let them know what you found brother. Get them to pay for new spacers if they are the ones that ****ed them.

Or is this the same shop that put the new tyres on 10 days ago?:eek:
