I am, you have no idea! You guys still never stated wether or not you've driven the Countach. If I get behind the wheel of one in the near future I'll report back.
I hope youre starting to feel better! To answer your question, no, I have not to this moment driven a Countach although I have a standing offer to drive one of my mentors cars (he has four of them) anytime I like. If it would help you if I drove one, let me know. I didnt persue one because I was never enamored by the way it looked inside or out. At the time, you could still buy an anniversary car for $100k, so it was well within budget. I decided to buy a Diablo Roadster instead. More power, better ergonomics, a more beautiful rounded design, and finally, the removable top was very appealing to me as a weekend fun car. And a 99 roadster is MUCH rarer than an anniversary Countach (150 vs 625), so numbers sometimes dont tell the whole story as its about a 2:1 price difference in favor of the Countach.
Oooohh another story to use for ammo to the 7k naysayers. Also, is your mentor accepting mentee applications?
Yes, all are valid comments. However it all comes down to one question. Which car is more iconic. The Diablo or the Countach? A rhetorical question if there ever was one. I had my eyes on the CT after I got my TR in the garage but after watching them slowly sail away, I'm going to have to settle for a Diablo, which is an excellent automobile that is going to deliver all the goods that the Testarossa delivers, except the steady tempermant. I've talked to Shamille at great lengths about it already and the Diablos are a bit more of a headache than the TR, but still doable as long as they get out on the road enough.
I just received an email from Auctions America. They are selling a 1991 TR with low miles with an estimate of $125,000-150,000 on November 21, 2014. NOW the minuses. This is a Canadian car so a US buyer will have to pay an additional 2.5% duty. It does NOT have its original wheels. It has not had a major service since 2002! WTF!!!!! The CDN car piece is actually a positive. Our cars are stored for 6 months of the year because of the weather, coupled with our summer not being a pizza oven like Florida, Texas or Cali. This actually bolds better as the overall condition of the car should be better. Nice to see that service can go to the 10+ yr mark. I think we all suspect this is more in tune with reality than the 5 yr nonesense we talk about on the chat. Good luck to the owner, I'm sure he will get it ! And good luck to the buyer, not much else in a Ferrari 12 cylinder lineup to buy for this money anymore.
I have no seat time in a Countach either, and for the same reason - the styling never appealed to me at the time of release and 30 years hasn't changed my view. Nothing I've ever read about them has even encouraged me to go for a spin either - hot cabin, no visibility, and now - no value! They are both iconic, as I certainly remember when you went to a friend's house there were heated discussions about what was on their wall. This from kids who could barely drive...quite funny when I think back. Being born in 69, it was the perfect age to turn 16 when these cars were only just changing the game. Seeing one in person, people would stop in their tracks, like time stood still. 30 years later, I'm happy that effect hasn't worn off.
612s are still in the 100s last time i looked. Man have those tanked. Better looking car than the Fiorano though IMO.
Car Fax reports the last odometer reading in 2009 at 9069km's. Current odometer is 9077km's. So it has only been driven 8km's since 2009? My off the cuff auction guess is........$102k. In regards to the Countach...its looks are out of the ballpark, like a hot chick. We all know they are trouble, but there is a line out the door to ride them.
I'll join the chat here. I initially thought that the Ford GT would not rise in value. They, after all, made some 4,000 of them. Surely too many to mean that it would ever be very collectible. Well, as I said in a Ford GT thread here, my crystal ball was broken. What did they do ? Triple? So I think the 7,000 number may not be the force depressing values. I think it is more likely that the cars are coming out of the wilderness years and will see a steady rise as more people find them attractive propositions at the price point. With little consideration for thought of future values. At $50K-$70K it's going to start becoming a classic alternative to low end V8 powered Ferraris. Although the purchasers will be looking for entirely different "entry" Ferraris. And perhaps a cut above 3X8 cars. In summation. I think the 7K # is going to be a no factor. So buy them and love them. A car meant for wide open roads.
We get your point, I was making more of the reference to an Enzo era car. The heard is much thinner if you would like a 12 banger pre 1988 that is more of an analog car. Did you ever think that maybe since the last service was 12 yrs ago that the owner decided to park the car since 2009 which would have out the service at 7 yrs".......hence the 8kms. Why must you guys always look at the negative when it comes to these cars - it's possible this owner has a life aside from going to home deport and the corner Starbucks to advertise he has a Ferrari.
No question the Countach is more iconic. Not sure I would advise on settling for a Diablo if you really want a Countach. The prices will pull back during the next recession....bet you could get an anniversary car for $150k then. But for both the Countach and Diablo, I think the future pricing will look like a rising sine wave, each peak higher than the last. The Diablo has been an amazing car to own so far. The best part is doing 7,000 rpm with the roof off, 530 hp roaring through a quicksilver exhaust.
In regards to the countach..never meet your heroes. I have driven many. Fun for about a 1/2 hour. They get tiring really fast, hence the low miles on most. 9k TRUE miles on a TR? It's very possible but extremely unlikely that the true milage. I had a 15k example come thought the shop not to long ago. It showed every bit of the 50k it actually had.
Hahahah....I actually took the TR to Home Depot to get some Acetone and primer today. After being inop for a month with the clutch change....I HAD to take her out. Ill probably find another excuse to leave the house with her tomorrow. I do get your point though.
You would be right with that one. The 550 is pretty much perfect. I would grab one of those before a TR. I really think they will take off in price fairly soon. Long production run for sure, but it is perhaps the best front engined 12 cylinder since the Daytona.
I feel where you are coming from and you are right they will pull back when the bubble pops. But I doubt they'll slide lower than a quarter mil. We'll see what happens.
Wanna buy mine? Looking to sell her in the near future. And yes it is the best since the Daytona. The 599 sounds better and is more fun but it looks awful. There was no way in hell I was going to buy one of those. Plus the production number on the 550 is VERY low which gave me more comfort when I bought it.
