a friend is restoring a 1972 euro dino gt. classiche says all usa and euro cars had dinoplexes by 1972. true or false?
yes serious question because euro daytonas did not have dinoplexes while usa cars did. it was part of the smog compliance system because dinoplexes provide a hotter spark. thought maybe dinos might be equiped the same.
When I first read your thread title, my first thought was "No, you don't want a Dinoplex even if you have a Dinoplex" . I believe there's the possibility to replace the Dinoplex internals with something more reliable, but still use the stock Dinoplex outer case. Dinoplex.org is a great resource IMO for anyone dealing with the Dinoplex ignition: http://dinoplex.org It's interesting that the 26/68 Dino 206gt OM (which is in Italian and only covers the standard euro version) shows it's Dinoplex, but that classiche answer seems to imply there are/were some 246 that don't have Dinoplex -- anyone have a F reference that shows there were some 246 that didn't have Dinoplex? (I've only got the later 72/72 246 OM that shows it's Dinoplex).
My GTS went 43k miles on the original Dinoplex. I think it is hit or miss on how long they last. A fellow at FAF Ferrari (decades ago) in Atlanta said not to jump off a car with a Dinoplex as it may kill it. Better to charge the battery. I have a few of the Winterburn conversions and a few NOS Dinoplex so I should be OK for a while.
