Someone suggested aluminum polish, then fireproof clearcoat. I am passing along that info, but never really did it.

In my case, I just cleaned the crap out of everything after my Major in October, 2008.
Great meditation - a good cloth, Simple Green, a tooth brush, and LOTS of time. Looks
pretty good now. (Aluminum cleaned during Major at the shop)

Just make sure to purchase the "non corrosive" Simple Green, tagged for precision equipment. The household version is not compatable with aluminum, even though it is non-toxic.

I just used Gunk Engine Brite(sic) spray and toothbrushes and rags. Didn't wash it off. I just wanted to get it clean, not try to get it polished-looking, because I like the look of bare aluminum and bare machinery. Looks businesslike and clean, without much effort.
