Hello to all. After watching and reading here for a few weeks i realize i should go for the car i want most, a 599 GTB.This would be my first Ferrari so i am a little nervous making the right choice. The question is ,if buying a out of warranty car from a dealer, does it make sense to spent an extra 8k for 1 year warranty?

Whatever makes you sleep better at night. Some owners refuse to buy a car without one. Others consider it a waste of money. Cars history... Year, mileage, general condition and service records are all part of the equation and of course money. What are the odds of a bill equaling that 8K? If the repairs are going to run more than that I guess you lose. My thinking is if you can afford to pay 8K for a one year extended warranty. You can probably afford to pay a 15K bill if you need to. A modern 599 probably an 07. Having owned one. I'd give the extended warranty a pass. As long as all its service campaigns are up to date. A great car by the way and a very nice way to begin ferrari ownership. They are very well priced right now and you really can't go wrong. i also think 8K is quite high for 1 year. My dealer was offering extended i year coverage on my 599 for about $3800 . But its not bumper to bumper. That kind of coverage is really unnecessary in my opinion. I'd be looking to purchase that insurance from someplace else if i was you.The bigger problem down the road is that after owning a 599 what do you buy now? Good Luck and Welcome.

Insurance companies are like casinos. They exist to take bets, with every game offering odds favoring the house. Does anyone win? Yes. Do some who buy insurance come out ahead, so to speak? Yes.

But experience by definition means at whatever price the insurance policy costs, it has been the historical experience of the policy issuer that the quoted price favors them making a profit on the insured when spread over all policy buyers.

The question for anyone buying an extended warranty comes down to placing your bet against the house. So I don't see a definitive way to answer, "Is it worth it?" It's a gamble that favors the insurance issuer, but you may collect. Nobody knows.

I do know you will wish you had it if you have problems.

If something goes really wrong, you can blow through 8 grand so fast it will make your head spin.

But, the warranty does not cover a lot of things and it won't cover routine maintenance. It won't cover a clutch or brake pads for example. You need to check with the dealer about what is covered and see if you're comfortable with what you're insuring.

If you have a war chest on the side and you have good confidence in the quality of car you're buying, you can save the money and just pay as you go.

One thing you might try if you are nervous. Try it for a year. For one thing, in a year you will get a better feel about your car and what it does to your pocketbook. Then, next year, decide if you want to continue. And, considering the cost of a 599, another 8 grand isn't that much to tack onto to if you want that peace of mind.

There is one thing you must not do. You must not let FEAR stop your enjoyment of this machine. That would totally defeat the purpose of owning one.
