It's a simple little "tray" used in the oil sump to keep the oil from sloshing away from the pickup tube in a hard corner.

These cars will loose 100% of the oil psi if you turn hard enough left or right (I don't recall which it is anymore).

I was a track junky for about ten years. Fun, but the trade off was a oil psi loss in a hard turn, enough that you got valve clatter and I spent way too much time in the early years wondering what that noise was.

Anyway, I put an Accusump in that is supposed to help but it didn't. So anyone reading this, don't bother with that. I finally just installed a switch and wired it to my ignition switch so I only use it now to pre-oil my engine before a cold start up so leaving it in does serve a good purpose in the end but is wasn't why I put it in to begin with.

The windage tray was made by someone here on Fchat from Australia, I believe. Simple simple simple. It just has a shape and one way trap doors that just keeps the oil from pooling up against the side of the sump away from the pick up tube. That's it, that's all it does and it does so beautifully.

Total 100% complete cure. Never lost a single lb of psi again. Why would anyone ever remove it and go back to stock?

Wow. Who needs a dry sump car when you can just add a bit of netting :)

    That's it!

Why didn't Ferrari make this and put them in? Costs? WTF? It was a $60,000 car, Ferrari could have made them $61,000 cars and still sold the same number.

When they were beating these things up at Fiorano, surly they saw this problem with the wet sump cars. Why they didn't pull back in the garage and remedy it then for the rest of the ones on the assembly line? I'll never understand that.

Toyota not bothering putting one in a Toyota Tercel I can understand, But Ferrari not putting one in a Ferrari makes no sense to me.

I have done EFI (my car is a turbo) Bob Norwood told me it is not worth the effort to EFI a stock car without other performance mods. From my experience, you need a good chassis dyno and experience tuning EFI. You may find your self fine tuning it forever. If you like that sort of thing, then it may be worth it. But it is lot of work to get it right.

It's funny because the cheap Lancia Scorpion/MonteCarlo comes with the windage tray that has two trap doors with oil pick-up/oil pump right in between stock.

EFI is essential to a reliable forced induction system though.

I thought they all had to be dyno'ed in.

I wouldn't think of doing it any other way. That 81 I drove was set up on the dyno. I loved it. I just don't have that instant throttle response moving from a stop on my QV like that car did.

"It's a good feeling when you pull up even to the old man in his new Corvette who tried to leave you at the last stop light."

And he would have had NO trouble at all disappearing from sight from a 3x8...unless he didn't care to try. ;)

I was going to not bother... but... I can't.

We know your ideology on originality, great that is your choice, I applaud it and since that makes you happy all the better. It's not right or wrong it just is. It was your back handed slight against those who may choose to do what ever they feel to their property. Once Ferrari sold the vehicle it was no longer their property to stipulate what can and can not be done to it, let alone anyone else.

Cheap Corvette... not sure what to say about that. Maybe the vintage in the late 70's early 80's possibly. Do they cost less then a Ferrari, yes, but so what? what does that metric prove? Does cost automatically make something superior to something else?

And why in gods earth would you compare a 50's~60's vintage small block chevy to a 308? You said a pre-owned 'vette. How about a '10 ZR1.. that's older is that a 'cheap' enough vehicle to mod? Modifying a Z06 can easily cost over 100k USD.. it's not uncommon either. I find it amusing that some Ferrari owners are unaware of the cubic dollars spent modifying other marques. Most Ferrari's do not get modified for a variety of reasons, lack of actual parts to modify them with, the fear that it'll ruin the value because, and let's be honest some owners can just afford them to start with and the last thing they want is depreciation when it's time to get out from under the 'fun' of owning one. And finally the mystique that a Ferrari is the pinnacle of everything automotive (shhh, it's not).

I don't judge or care one way or the other. What I can not stand is the stance that one way is superior or the only way. By making the statement that an owner of a Ferrari should go modify a cheap vehicle from another MFG is insulting, it's a back handed comment meant to demean the choice of modifications.

P.s. I don't own a 'vette, never have and probably never will, no appeal to me. But I'm aware of the performance and power that they have and what many people spend on modifying the hell out of them.

Well, is it not a proven fact that, for the most part, an equally powered, late model Corvette will kick a Ferrari's ass...at least in a straight line :(

    Hi

Yes mine is turbo as well currently running 440rwhp but im pretty much maxed out. EFI is the solution. I think being able to pull a bit of timing when required to stop detonation is a big help. I already monitor intake temps so when it gets too hot I avoid boost. What EFI did you use. Ive been looking at haltech and motec. Just trying to find someone capable in Australia to do it. What were the major issues in going EFI to look out for

Thanks for the responses by the way

    2016 Corvette Z06 sprints 0-to-60-mph in 2.95 seconds and the quarter-mile in 10.95 at 127 mph with 650hp. Priced from $79,400

2016 Ferrari 488 sprints to 62 mph in 3.0 seconds. Ferrari says the 488 Spider completes the 1/4-mile sprint in 10.6 seconds with 670 hp. Priced from $245,400

Close to a dead heat...except for price :(

We use Link on our builds, they are in your 'backyard' and I'd highly recommend them for the ECU end of things. The last couple of builds are also COP for ignition, MASSIVE difference in running and performance when you can control the ignition timing via a load cell.

If you're not running an aftermarket fuel pump I'd recommend something like the Bosch 044, 400+Hp on boost needs a lot of fuel! The stock CIS pump is limited in flow, that is also another restriction on power.

Here is another one of my takes on mods. A buddy of mine wants to put a supercharger on my '80 308. He keeps bugging me like it's something that needs to happen. That in some way, without my Ferrari (0 - 60 in 8 seconds) being a speedster, it defeats the purpose of owning one. My other buddy says..."Drive slow! Everyone knows it's a Ferrari".

So, my take is this, if I want to go fast, I get into my 1994 Pontiac Firehawk with 145,000 miles, modded to 400hp and tear it up. I look at my Ferrari as my show pony and the Firehawk is my racehorse...just my take :)

True enough, I'll be honest and say that the 308 chassis with 350~400 HP is night and day in terms of fun and driving experience. The chassis feedback with that much power is just about perfect. Again though, nothing wrong with keeping it stock :)

I think few would deny the right of an owner of any property to pretty much do what they want with it as long as it isn't Rembrandt-unique and doesn't break laws / hurt anybody.

Something like a Corvette is undoubtedly in a different class in terms of availability, ubiquity of the block & associated parts and the modification culture and amazing skills in the US that go back to prohibition times.

What distinguishes a Ferrari for some is the sense that it is a piece of 3D art; a thing of beauty everyone admires, not just petrolheads. I think this is the core emotion for originality supporters.

Whether the 308 yet deserves the "art" accolade on the basis of rarity or vintage is still very much up for debate. But as we pass milestones like 40 years, there's no turning back. I've no doubt the future will be increasingly biased toward preservation.
