When I asked at the Bellevue WSP office how to make a request for an exemption, she basically said it wasn't going to happen. This was 5 or 6 years ago.
If the law will not follow the law, I suppose the only thing you can do is challenge the State and set a precedence which others can then rely on for the exemption. Only set back is the cost, someone will have to dig deep, less expensive to simply pay the ticket or drill holes.
Well, the person I spoke to did say there were "a couple" cars on this list, but she could not produce it. She told me who and where to send a request, but said that it was pretty much a worthless proposition, and not worth my time.
Wow, that's hard. I've never been ticketed in 8 years of driving the two cars I have now with no front plates. I refuse to put them on in fact. I mounted the plates in the garage on the wall and they've been there ever since. I've even been pulled over for a tint ticket and they never asked about the front plate.
There have been two tries but neither has gotten enough signatures to make the ballot. I asked the WA DOL about the getting rid of the front plates and approached it from a "concerned tax payer wanting to save money angle". I was informed that DOL would love to do away with front plates but they had to sign a deal with the devil (WSP) to get rid of the front tabs. Letters to legislators were ignored, imagine that!! edit: roughly what would it cost to challenge the law if someone were to be cited for no front plate?
This is my fist post. So, going along south bound I-405 at 70th St exit, a WSP pulls me over for having a european vanity plate. Sort of the same issue with not having a plate, and he gives me a $125 traffic violation ticket. Although, when he handed me the ticket he said "this is a non-moving violation so it won't affect your insurance", but yet the traffic box was checked. Was he wrong out the moving violation? Has anyone gone to traffic court over the issue of not having a front plate?
REMOVE THE PLATE IMMEDIATELY Michael, Just put it in the glove box or on the side of your seat. If you get pulled over throw it quickly up on the dash. That is what I do ..LOL
Ferraris don't come with front plate brackets, so if there's not a place to attach a front license plate then you might be able to protest this in court. Also look in your state Penal Code to see what it says about front plates on vehicles specially if there not a place to attach one, for example a 360... No plate brackets! I know California don't enforce this front plate crap. Rob

Yes, you do. But I think I might argue that the state gladly accepted and required sales tax to be paid on a vehicle that does not comply with state law. With all the other things the state legislators "protect" us from, shouldn't they protect us from a violation of the law? Yes, I know the answer is no.
Today marks the second time I've been pulled over in a week's time for no front plate. Let's not worry about the drug dealers, drunk drivers, or rapists, let's stop the guy with no front plate on his Alfa. HE COULD BE DANGEROUS!!!!!!11!

Possibly, under HR 218, carrying by off duty or retired officers would be allowed if it was legal in that state, but they may not be under the influence of alcohol (does not say they may not drink). If the shooting is not deemed legal, then all bets are off.
Exemptions have been granted....I had a WA state exemption granted for my 365 C/4 in 1986, I have personally seen the letters for exemptions on both 246's and 365 B/4's in the 80's. How recently exemptions have been granted is something else entirely. I had clients with new 328's who were denied, conversely the factory delviered those cars with US specific front plate brackets....
Found this on ODOTs website. I'll make a phone call into one of our Sheriff buddies for Clackamas county and post if Oregon does put out front license plate exemption letters, I know SP (Special Interest) vehicles can get away with one plate, wonder if that can be translated over to exotics, everytime we drill holes on the front bumper of a Gallardo, I want to puke.
I've been to Canada and down to Cannon Beach, Oregon with no plate or my Euro plate. I guess I better stash an extra 125.00 for the inevitable....................................... Oddly, I ran a vintage Euro plate on my 308 for 5 years and never got harassed for it. The new owner is STILL using it. BTW, NO holes drilled in either car! The words displayed and plain view sure as he## don't mean mounted and front bumper to me! Thank god they are out there making drivers and streets a safer place to be. (MORONS) If two plates are issued, one must be displayed on the front of the vehicle and the other on the rear of the vehicle. Plates must be in plain view so as to be easily read by the public and law enforcement (See ORS 803.540).
I believe I've posted this before, but when you do get the front plate ticket, simply head to a body shop and get a quote to respray the front bumper. When you go to court, you'll have a perfectly good reason that the plate was off and the ticket will get dismissed. Been there, done that! -Tad

Oh, come on, JDZNate. I don't think any of the heroes listed on that website were out ticketing exotics for no front plate. That website actually just makes our point for us - there are a hell of a lot more important things for the police to be doing than this.
Good luck! I'd love it if it were true, but it doesn't seem likely. Washington's exemption is actually written into their law- not so with Oregon other than the SP plates.
+1 easier to blame the person who swears to uphold the law and never mention the fact we have nothing to do with creating the laws. Maybe direct your frustrations toward the lawmakers and fight what you may consider a silly law!!!!
