Hello I placed a deposit on a QP sometime back and I think mine is due to be specced in a couple of weeks whats your opinions, im not sure I should go in for a car in its first year of release and with all the problems I'm hearing in magazine tests..
Well top gear here in the UK really liked this car, thought it much better than mercedes, bmw, and jaguar, only problem they could really find was the gearbox.
What type of problems are you referring to? I cannot recall reading any article where they had any mechanical issues, some have noted the DuoSelect transmission as the only flaw in an otherwise great automobile. BTW...I've driven the Quattroporte on a few different occasions and find the complaints of the gearbox mostly unfounded. GO FOR IT!!! Words cannot express the feeling of driving this car
No mechanical problems what they meant was that they would have prefered either a fully auto transmmision or a proper manual. they did not like the paddle box on this car.
I drove one of the pre-production Quattroporte cars and it appeared to be pretty well sorted out. This particular car must not have had the recent Cambicorsa updates since it didn't operate at smoothly as our Spyder with updates. Another comforting factor would be the eager willingness of Maserati to treat their customers right and provide updates at no charge. A couple of months ago, our 2002 Spyder spent about 2 weeks at the dealer -- they updated the car to 2004 specs (everything except structural changes). They put in a new style clutch, valve cover seals, transmission sound-deadening panels, and numerous software updates. Total charge to me was the price of an oil change. The location of the dealer might influence your decision. If they are 2 hours away, I might wait for just a bit. If they are close by, I'd go for it!
like someone mentioned, the only glitches we've read are the gearbox being not smooth in auto mode in traffic. i m pretty sure Maserati / Ferrari NA would want to do it right for this car. If they do not take care of their initial owners, they will not survive in this highly competitive luxury car market. i have one on order. the only thing on the specing of the car that i am not happy with is that they did not allow me to order alcantara or leather roof lining. (and that infrared sensing windows is not available in NA).
I have bought one four weeks ago and it has had a number of problems electrical and mechanical . The worst of which has been that it broke down after 5,000 miles and is currently being trailered back to the garage. The car looks beautiful, is comfortable to drive and is a welcome addition to the top of the range. I now wait to see how Maserati handle the problem. I have had Jaguars and Mercedes. I wanted something different I hope that I have have just been unlucky and that all will be OK. I will keep the forum informed of progress!
i would, its a great car, the best in its class, imo...i hope to get one in a few years when the used ones hit the market.. if i had the money , i would get one now as an everyday car, it would also be a great date car..., sporty, but luxurious, and very pretty
Go for it, but be sure you know the dealers policy for loaner cars. I never mind taking my car for service if they give me something else to drive.
I have considered replacing my daily driver, a 2000 M5 with one. However, since I drive 20k+ miles per year, I am concerned about reliability. I will probably wait a couple of years to see how the car fairs with high milegae and depreciation before buying. I do think the car looks GREAT!
that would be smart, wait one year to see how the new software is and if all the bugs get sorted out, then i wouldnt hesitate
It has just arrived back at the dealer having been trucked back from France.. will know what was wrong sometime this week I guess
