My first thread. I purchased my first 308 less than two years ago. It has been a well maintained car. Records indicate that it has been serviced with Ferrari parts with about 25K miles and original. It is a rarer metalic gray color with black interior. The paint is very polished and clean. The issue is that the clear is checking. You can see the checking in direct sunlight. A renowned Ferrari judge has described the car as one of the most cleanest orignals he has seen before the checking started. I am totally interested in keeping the car well maintained and will probably move up a model ot two if the opportunity presents itself. To keep this car most desirable, do you keep it original and pure or do you repaint? I am leaning on the orignal side, but am only starting to learn the value of these makes and seen many that sell well with repaints. I learned that if its pretty, it sells faster. It's so much harder to find the person who wants it original.
I was going to say original before I read the post. Now that I read the post I say....keep it original. It might sell quicker w/ 'resale red', but you would be hard pressed to make your money back going that route unless if you got an el-cheapo respray. Personally I couldn't ever live with myself after respraying over a rare color.
Our Nero 308 checked on the front clip only and ,as the afore mentioned post, the original paint was single stage. In the process of re-painting we found that the front was indeed re-painted but found no evidence of any damage. IMO you should keep it looking as perfect as you can. A crappy looking Ferrari simply should not be tolerated. Lost
"A crappy looking Ferrari simply should not be tolerated." Heck, I don''t know why not, Ferrari made several on their own.
Are you sure it has 2 stage paint with clear? There's really no way you can tell by just looking at it. When you wax the car, does metallic gray come off on the rag? That's the only way I know of to tell if it's got clear or not. In either case, I vote to repaint in order to get rid of the spider webs. Is it on the entire car, or just at the front?
From talking to several Ferrari owners, it seems quite common to respray the front clip of these cars due to stone dings, etc. One guy that I talked to at a local show who puts lots of miles on his red 328 has resprayed his front twice and you absolutely cannot tell any difference between the resprayed front and the rest of the car.
