Ive owned a Pista Spider for the past 6 months that I’m in love with, but I’m in the process of selling it because I can’t get comfortable with putting miles on it due to how often I drive it. I don’t buy these cars to occasionally drive. I put almost 4000 miles on it over the course of 6 months and I can’t stop thinking I’d be just as happy in an F8 and not nearly as worried about the mileage/depreciation since its not a Special Series. I also dont track my cars so I’m not getting the max value out of a pista versus what I would get out of an F8 Spider for $200K less. Plus all the creature comforts that come along with the F8. BUT…..then I look at the marketplace and see I can get an SF90 Stradale for the same price as an F8 Spider and the spinning begins. Ive driven all of these cars extensively and love them all fairly equally for different reasons. Rented SF90 AF, F8 Spider, 458, 488 Spider all for a week and I own an 812 GTS. Could really use some guidance from the community on what to do and if I’m making a really big mistake selling. Am I overthinking the miles in relation to depreciation?

You own a 488 Pista and an 812 GTS, from which it can be assumed you're not exactly strapped for cash.

You say you are in love with the car. If I were in your shoes, I don't see why you'd not continue to enjoy it and ignore the depreciation entirely.

But if you can't get past it, it sounds like an F8 Spider would do all you really need it to, without the worry about depreciation.

If you drive enough up to a point of no turning back then you will feel good about using the car. I figure that certain point be around 30k miles or 5 years of ownership. Depreciation matters to someone who does not use or own long term cars. So if I were you, drive more and in the end, if Pista Spider holds whatever value, then you enjoy the car for almost free.
That is the charm of limited run cars.

Great advice and truly appreciated. Yeah I’m not strapped for cash but I grew up fairly lower middle class so I don’t like to be irresponsible financially either. So if there’s an alternative that will make me just as happy, I figure it’s worth exploring. But maybe sometimes you have to just enjoy life which is short. It’s only money…

Over 17k miles on my Pista. Personally, I didn’t buy it to think about resale value, I enjoy driving and looking at this work of art. My personal thought process…never buy with resale in mind, I’ve already accepted that almost all cars depreciate, I’m good with it. I understand where you’re coming from, I just think it’s a mindset by the owners…no right or wrong answer. Enjoy that beauty or get something that you will, with an easier mindset.

Yeah appreciate the perspective. Deep down I know that’s the right answer. Just need to get over the psychological nonsense in my head about being “irresponsible” given the fact that cars like this are not the most “responsible” decision to begin With.

The Pista series is the most beautiful modern Ferrari they have made to date. Drive it and enjoy it. Life is unfairly short so you might as well enjoy it. Let me ask you this, when you're on your death bed, will you regret not just enjoying that ole Pista more? If the answer is regret, then keep it so when that day does inevitably come, you just smile and remember the fun you had.

One could consider keeping the Spider and adding the F8.

  9. Sell any car that you don't drive, either because you don't like it or for fear of depreciation or for any reason.

One owns a car to drive. Ownership is a means to an end, and that end is driving.

That said, I have nearly 20k on my Pista now. And counting.

Sell,it and get a 458 because everyone around here says that’s the last Ferrari that is great….lol…all joking aside…do what you feel is best for what you want out of a Ferrari and your financial situation. Any Spider is not a track car…488 Pista Sider is not a track car so don’t feel you can’t get your use out of it…none of these Ferrari’s are really track cars like a Porsche GT car is for example. Enjoy!

I had a 992.1 GT3 and GT3 touring. Incredible driver cars but at the end of the day it’s just a 911. You see one Ferrari for every 25 911’s driving early Sunday morning in socal. I eventually want to put one back in the stable for pure driving pleasure. That said, I find the pista to be rawer than the GT3. Seems Iike much less sound dampening and less padding. More drone. Pista much more of a weapon.

Tough call, it’d be real hard for me to part with such a beautiful car. But the F8 spider is hardly a consolation prize.

P.S. it appears you’ve got a real Ferrari problem, let me know if you find any online programs.

Your car is a beautiful spec. and I commend you on your taste. The Pista and Pista apperta are absolute epic cars .Personally, I never give it a second thought about putting miles on my cars. Some sit for years because I can’t drive them all at once so I have a couple in rotation each season. I don’t care about the ones that sit for years either because I buy the cars that I love to begin with and I love looking at them when not being driven.

You probably worked your ass off to get there too. Buy, drive and enjoy, life is short.

Of course Everyone has a different way of looking at this and different prerogatives.

    Enjoy in good health.

I’m purely making up numbers but one way to potentially look at it if you put miles on almost ant Ferrari it will depreciate. Say 5k miles per year on Pista will depreciate X amount, 5k miles per year on an F8 will depreciate X amount. You are just starting a a higher stating point and the X amounts may not be that far apart???
Not sure if makes sense or valid, just trying to convince you to keep that beautiful Pista.

Did the F8 give you the special car feeling and thrill as the pista tho?

    P.S
Your pista looks perfect...what spacers do you have on it?

If you are genuinely not strapped for cash, and love the car then why are you even having this discussion? Stop obsessing over mileage and depreciation. The solution may be as simple as just putting a bit of black tape on the dash to cover the odometer, and redirect your thinking back into enjoying the car which is what im assuming is why you bought it in the first place?
An F8 spider is no Pista spider and it never will be. The only loss of creature comfort would amount to the loss of a bit of sound deadening so my advice just take it to a sound shop, have them upgrade the sound a bit more and put some sound deadening in the doors and across the back parcel shelf and call it a day. It will make a world of difference and in a positive way.

It's irresponsible to buy a Ferrari and irresponsible not to enjoy it...so, be responsible and drive it :)

Have been lurking in the community for quite some time. Glad I decided to reach out. So much great perspective and it’s clearly a one sided perspective. I’ve been leaning in the direction of keeping it but sometimes you just need a little push over the edge. Thanks to everyone who weighed in.

  21. Nah, you should sell your Pista Spider to me.

My wife wants a convertible and I'm having a hard time finding a Christmas present. :D
