I recently bought my first F-Car, a 1993 348 TB SS from another F-Chatter. I am considering adding the Scuderia fender shields (I would be choosing the metal ones not stickers) and would be interested to hear to board's opinion. My concern is 1) it may detract from the cars lines and 2) it would be a non factory addition to an otherwise somewhat rare, factory stock Ferrari. What are your opinions about adding these shields?

I'm a big fan of the shields

guess it also depends on your audience.... 0.000001% of the population know something about the fcars, the other 99.99999% dont

It's been discussed a lot here - search on 'fender shields'.

    A brief answer:

    1. Aesthetics are up to you -- If you want my opinion, shields (and chrome wheels) are bling. I don't think they enhance the looks and would spend the money on mechanical upgrades.

    2. Yes, it's a non-factory addition. I don't think 348s are going to be popping up in museums in the next decade or two or four, but with the new emphasis on the Ferrari Classiche program (for 328s and earlier, at the moment), originality may matter more.

    3. It's your car. Whatever anyone posts here, the main purpose of the car is to make you happy.

Purists maintain shields belong only on race cars and "track" specials like F40/50/Enzo, CS, etc.

Most everybody else sticks to the "if the factory didn't put it on, don't mess with it" mindset.

As for me, I don't like aftermarket shields on cars where they weren't an option. If the car had them as a factory option, I would put them on, being careful that they are done right (on 360s for example, they are recessed into the fenders, not surface mounted).

If you don't care too much about originality and resale, you should do whatever floats your boat.

Put the shields on. They're only held on by a sticker and can come off just as easy as they went on. Did you by the car for you to enjoy, or for someone else to enjoy? Do what YOU like.

I wouldn't make a permanent addition. Just use the stickers. :)

Thanks for all the input. I'm still on the fence. I certainly agree that the shields look better recessed in the fender but then very few will notice this inaccuracy. I think I may go with the Yoshi shields with the logic that if I don't like them I can always remove them.

As for the car, I bought #40 out of California. Car is still in transit so no pics yet.

The 348TS (red) that I bought last month has shields. I may want to remove them, but my only concern is if the paint underneath will match, ie, if the paint underneath the shields may be darker and not as 'faded' as the rest of the car, and this may be visible. I don't have personal experience with seeing this, but it will depend, I'm sure, on how well the paint was cared for, and how much time it spent in the sun. I will probably remove them, and if I see a 'shadow' from the shield, I will probably keep shields. ;)

I have often wondered why people add shields. I can only guess that people really really really want to make sure anyone knows the car is a Ferrari. Obviously targeting a completely car-oblivious audience. Be sure to also add a sticker to the outside of your suit so people really know it is an Armani.

It's not that I don't like yellow..:) I think it looks great! I just don't like the yellow shield on a yellow car.

Maybe they should have red shields for yellow cars...:D
