Thank you for making my week! I was in awe when a beautiful red F40 appeared in the midst of rainy, rush hour NJ traffic yesterday. The popping and crackling of the exhaust when you let off the throttle was intoxicating, as was the engine note when you cruised by me. If you see this, you know who you are....I was the guy who couldn't believe his eyes in the silver Porsche Turbo. It takes some cajones to take a raw supercar like an F40 in pouring rain, I've got the utmost respect to see that you actually drive this beautiful machine and that its not a museum piece. This seriously made my week, and I wanted to share it with others and if you happen to come across this, even better.

    Best,
    Connor

Edit: mods, if you could please fix my spelling error in the title...*Across*

If you keep it below the Turbos range, the f40 is very docile.

You see many FL plates all over the country. FL has no income tax.

Exactly, staying off the boost, you can drive it in the wet easily.

How abruptly does boost hit on an F40?

It depends on what gear you are in and the applied rpms.

If you know the car very well, you can induce progressive boost that comes on in a controlled & gentle way. Alternatively, in 2nd gear you can induce full-boost pretty quickly and it spools up exponentially to give nothing short of rocket-ship acceleration. It better be dry and you'd better be pointing straight ahead.

    Yes.
Engagement of warp drive is not advised in anything but dry conditions, unless you are already wearing "depends".

Like a Porsche 930 turbo. Easy to drive until you put the hammer down, then hang on!! The rush of power and speed is like nothing else. It's an experience you must feel to understand. It's really quite amazing.

I see you are driving an EPL tuned turbo, no F40, but not shabby at all.

    Specs?, what year?

Thanks, certainly was pretty over shadowed in this instance but she's my baby. Its an '01 996 Turbo. Mostly stock, EPL flash, exhaust and short shifter. Doing a coilover install in a week or two. Should be in about the same region of hp as the F40, but I think I weigh about 1000 lb more!

Thats what makes the F40 so ultimate to me. Its no BS...no driver aids, had pull string door releases before they were "cool" and just totally raw. Cars today are too complicated and heavy.

drive lt like any race car; squeeze on the throttle and squeeze on the brakes. the pedals are heavy by today's standards but it isn't like a big block 66 vette. from an entertainment standpoint, the gradual acceleration is much more satisfying to the senses than an abrupt push.
