It's interesting that you let one person spoil the conversation about Ferrari Watches. As you can see it was being commented on and was an active, lively thread.

I didn't know there was another related thread buried somewhere on the site, nor did the others participating. So because one person decides to be the forum police, you move the thread to oblivion. What was a nice exchange of pics and ideas from a group of members, will now die.

Please think twice before removing a thread just because a related one is buried somewhere else on the site...That is a shame. Many of us are new and want to discuss things for the first time...If this was your policy, which I know it is not, you would be moving "every" new thread, because in reality, they are all duplicates of an existing thread. There are only so many topics that can come up and they have "all" been brought up before!

    Respectfully, Chaya Tinterow

Yes I have to agree sir !

I've just started enjoying the thread, especially when the classic watches from the 80's and 90's started appearing and those used on the Magnum show with the 308, its part of the we like here in the 3x8 section.

    regards
    Johnny

I'll miss this thread too. Especially the posts that related to the 308 (on tv, etc).

You seem to be under several misconceptions.

First you thread was not removed, it was moved. Your thread is here:

    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/fine-watches-jewelry-clothes/536375-show-us-your-watches.html

it has not been destroyed or merged. You would have seen this if you had clicked on the "move notice". I did not move the thread, but I agree with the move. It is currently a top thread in an active topic related section (Fine Watches, Jewelry, & Clothes). It will remain a top thread if users find it interesting enough to continue posting on it. If it slows down, then it will get buried. But at least it will be buried in a forum that makes it easier to be found by someone researching the subject in the future.

Second, I doubt that the moderator who moved it did so because of the comments of "one person". He most likely came across it, noted that there was a better forum for it and moved it with a "move notice" so that current posters to that thread could be redirected to the correct forum.

There is a tendency amongst new model forum users to start socializing and to do so only with the users on that model forum. The other topic forums (models, regions, lifestyle, and so on) exist because the site becomes unmanageable when there is no organization to the topics other than social grouping as social groupings change and disappear all the time.

Third, the moderators will in fact move and merge topics all the time based on our years of experience moderating the forum.

Well, the reality is that most of us only read or post in "308/328" because that is "our" section.

Secondly, the thread was intended for "308/328" enthusiasts to show the watches they personally own, such as the Magnum P.I. watch Dr. Tommy owns.

Thirdly, I first stated it was "moved" and then mistakenly used the word "removed", just as you mistakenly used the word "you" in your post, when you meant "your"!

Once again, there is no doubt in any of our minds that the thread would have been left alone, if not for the fact that I reprimanded the "tattletale"!

Yep, all understood Yin. Sometimes it is nice for model forum members to share peripheral info within the forum. Especially if it relates to the forum specific car model.

How about leaving it in both sections? Is that possible - especially if we stop the non 308 watches from here on out?

I don't see the harm or any potential problems bending a rule that is this small of an issue every now and then. Let's not be so black and white about everything all the time.

The link to the thread will remain behind in the 308 forum and will stay on page 1 until there are enough new threads to move it off the page.

While I understand the concept of having interesting stuff in your "own" forum, you can see how a moderator would have seen it as misplaced, as it is about watches, not 3 series cars.

Oh and Tommy, the moderators here live in the gray, there is no black and white. :D

As I said, I didn't make the call, so I can't tell you exactly what the mod who did was thinking; only what I would have thought.

The thread started as a forum user wanting to talk about his peers' watches. It only became clear after a few posts that it should be about Ferrari watches (I've just added "Ferrari" to the thread title to clarify that). After going through most of the first page, you introduced the idea of talking about watches that should have special significance to a 308/328 enthusiast, though that lasted only a few posts. I think the refinement of the topic that you introduced is specific enough to keep in a model forum.

So, if you think it helps, I've copied the pertinent posts to this thread...

    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/308-328-sponsored-yellow-compass-group/536559-special-watches-308-328-enthusiast.html

For the broader topic of Ferrari watches, I would hope that it's not a huge burden to subscribe to a thread in another forum and meet a few more users.
