Looking thru some of the photos in the Just Plain Pretty thread reminded me of something that really struck me a few years back.

My uncle Sean Lucy, a 777 pilot who lived in Oxnard, died of a heart attack in 2011 while on vacation in Italy. The family gathered on November 11th at his house for a wake. While everyone was gathered outside sharing remembrances, two warbirds came flying low over the house and circled a couple times. It was incredibly touching - I don't think there was a dry eye to be found.

I don't know who his friends were to remember him in that way, but if you're on this board I want you to know it was very well received and something I'll always remember. Thank you.

If anyone can tell me what these planes are I'd be grateful.

Those are North American T-28's. My condolences. Years ago a friend of mine with whom I sometimes flew was seriously injured in a crash. We were in his hospital room visiting him several days later when we began to hear a lot of engines and looked outside to see at least 20 airplanes circling the hospital. A parade of antiques, homebuilts, and Spam Cans . The thought behind a demonstration like that far out weighs choice of vehicle and the gesture remains long after. Nice thing for them to do.

Thank you Bob, both for the info and the empathy. I imagine that was a special moment for everyone.

    A fitting send-off. He's smiling somewhere.
