John just passed this along to me and I thought I'd share.

    F1 news from this day...

    F1Central.net: Bruce McLaren - 30 years...

(GMM) New Zealand F1 driver/constructor Bruce McLaren was killed in a test shunt at Goodwood (UK) exactly thirty five years ago today.

At 22, he won his first of four championship grands prix, and went on to found the highly successful F1 team that is today run by Ron Dennis.

On June 2 1970, something broke on 32-year-old McLaren's Can Am car and he died.

On a happier note, June 2 1996 marked a significant day in seven time world champion Michael Schumacher's racing career.

At Barcelona nearly a decade ago, the German superbly won the rain drenched Spanish grand prix -- his twentieth, but the first ever in a red Ferrari.

Nice post Carol. That was a very tragic event that happened to Bruce McLaren, at the time his mind set was more on devolping McLaren cars and at some point foregoing racing. It reminds me a bit of what happened to Ascari when he went into the harbor at Monaco yet he didn't have a scratch but was killed barely a week later testing a Ferrari Sports Car at Monza.

Thanks much! It would appear that you and I are the only ones interested in the important trivial. Guess no one else picked up on MS's first Ferrari win!

That win by MS in Spain in that god awful car showed what a rain master MS was and in my opinion he did more with that car in 96 than all the others combined. Hill was the Champion that year, but MS was the true champion.

I watch that race atleast once every month. It is a race never to be forgotten by Ferrari fans. That race ranks as high as the one driven by Nuvolari at the german Grand Prix in 1935.

I remember the day Bruce McLaren died. If I remember correctly the rear clip blew off at speed. Anyone who witnessed the McLarens romp in Can-Am grew to have great respect for McLaren as a driver, car builder and team owner.

Oh yeah did you ever watch the Monaco and Spanish Gp of 1981? G. Villenueve probably had one of the poorest handling Ferrari's with immense turbo lag and was able to win both those races, that was incredible.
