as you all know I'm a ironworker, sometimes rude and has a dry humor but thats only at work and sometimes it comes home with me but today some pictures came home instead, for the last three months we had a 300ton crawler lefting the iron from the basement and now its in a corner and has to come out so the building can countue and go up 19 more floors, the front part is for offices,to up 27 floors where the crawler is 10 floors of parking then the rest of the building up to finish at 27 floors of offices,so anyway we brought in a a 300-400 ton hydro to lift the crawler out in pieces with help from the tower crane, hope you enjoy some of these pic's I know they have nothing to do with ferrari's but this is what I do and how I paid for my ferrari

You know, whenever i go downtown, and do the walk, or hit the number 24 on the elevator button, i always think how fantastic and intelligent man is. Its things like this you think to yourself and go Wow....somebody actually put this piece here. Interesting line of work, no doubt its dangerous, yet exciting.
    Cheers !

    Very cool.

There are 3 types of Fcar owners. The well bred money'd guys who buy the new cars that we wish we could afford. The old school affluent guys who appreciate the vintage cars, and buy, restore and maintain them. And the the guys like you (and me) who build the world everyone else lives in, make a good living at it, and appreciate and own the classics.

Nice choice of car BTW. Post more pics of the project and your car, both..impressive.

    Pretty damned interesting stuff!

I worked at a Taconite Plant expansion on the Minnesota Iron Range back in 1976 doing construction surveying. I was always fascinated and a bit envious of the guys with the "spud wrenches" that bolted the place together.

The "ironheads" wore a different hardhat than everyone else (I always wanted one).

Next time make the pictures bigger.

Nice pictures. I've always liked watching construction sites.

They also reminded me of something I've wondered about. The rust on the steel beams, do they leave it that way and finish the building? Or do they sandblast or somehow clean it off? Thanks.

My pictures from this job. The boom crane originally went up on Nov. 3rd, and structural steel started on November 5th. We brought in the tower crane two weeks ago and attached the jib, Christmas lights and all. Building is at 8th floor structural steel and 10 floor parking garage as of yesterday. Fun job to watch.

I've always loved watching construction. Seeing the progress take place and with all the engineering going into it. I'm pretty sure I can watch a brick layer at work for several hours and not get bored. Maybe that's just me. :)

well it helps to have family already in it,that way you can work beside them, otherwise if your out there on your ownthe other workers will eat you for breakfast, thats where my rudeness or sarcasem comes in,alot of old school still out there, and thens there's apprintaship program you have to go through, four years, each year or level, which there are 6 levels,1st level you make 50% of what a journaman makes, each level after is about 10% till you turn out,I've been in now 12 years but my grandfather, father, uncle, and cousins where in the ironworkers feild,I got in late because I wanted to something differnt like having a cabinet shop, then I wanted better pay and retirement, and here I'm working my a## off,but I look forward to every day,to the pizzle to a finish building and to the rust,in a month or two the iron will be sprayed with fireproofing and the outside of the building will get either glass or precast hunged,at that time there will be pic's too!as long as everyone here tune's in I'll post pic's,........deal?

yesterday they flew more iron up and decking for the floors after they are welded in place with nelson studs put in place and the plummers, electrical are out of the way and inbeds are placed for prcast and windows then I go in and place rebar or lay mesh down before cement is poured on the floors to stiffen the decks, the iron is only go up 8 floors till the building is lock in place as which then the building will go up another 17 or so more floors here is some of that process, more to follow in some days to come we have a large storm coming in thursday and friday so much may not happen, since the 200 ton crawler is gone and we have only the tower crane in oper. the iron is not flying as fast, there was 100 pieces and now maybe 50 pieces are place a day becuase the tower can't lift or swing as fast as the other crane,so enjoy these and more to come...............I want to wish you all Happy New Year..................
