Has anyone bought these mocasin type shoes which are now being promoted by Ferrari Store online? I've just received a mailer on this with other promotions. They look very comfy and I wouldn't mind a pair but buying on line half a world away is a bit risky when it comes to fitment and size....we don't have them available in Oz. They look like the ultimate narrow fitting shoe needed for driving a 430F1. Rob.
I have a few pairs but not ones with Ferrari logo. Just the original Tod's. Very comfy but if it rains, your feet get wet very fast. And they get worn out pretty fast. I now drive bare feet.
Holy crap. I thought I was the only one.... Seriously, the first thing that happens once I sit down is slipping my sandals off and letting my bare feet touch that cold metal pedal... The feeling allows me to feel more in tune with my 355 and I absolutely love it. Can't do it in any other car cuz it feels weird....but in my 355 bare feet is the ONLY way I drive!
The company that makes these shoes if J.P. Tods', now more commonly known as Tod's. The owner is a buisness partner with Luca DeMontazemlo in other regards, hence the connection (at least when the "Ferrari" embossed versions came out, that is how I remember it as being described). The sizes are European in size, but not the typical 30-40 something size. Here in the US, I wear a size 11 tennis shoe, a size 9 1/2 dress shoe, but a size "8" Tod's, doesn't make sense at all to me. They are great shoes and are well made. if you don't have a solid footing (step on the sides of your feet more than the center), expect the sides to wear quickly and look like crap. I would be cautious about sizing, as long as the return policy is fair, I would order a couple of sizes and return the ones that aren't keepers.
I have a pair with the Ferrari logos. Not very comfortable to do anything but drive with. Wear very fast. The driving shoes from Clarks are more durable and comfortable to walk around in.
I am searching for drivers, I really wanted to avoid the logo'd Tod's glad I have another reason to. Any alternate selections?
I have a pair of non-Ferrari logo'd Todd's driving Moccassins Great looking shoes, excellent comfortable driving shoes. Not very comfortable to walk in for long distances and I've been told the rubber "cleats" wear out pretty fast. Would never wear them in the rain. Nonetheless, I love the shoes.
Pretty, but look useless for driving IMO. Cruising around maybe, but not driving. A driver's shoe should have a solid rounded heel, stiff across the ball of your foot with side support on the outside for proper heel-toe technique. Take a look at Piloti for shoes properly designed for driving.
You know, some of those Piloti shoes look pretty stylish as well as functional. I particularly like the Laguna and Sebring designs. All the best, Andrew.
I have one. OK for driving but pretty useless for walking. As for me, since I normally drive to mall with my 599 and walk around the mall, this shoe doesn't work for me. The idea of putting on different shoe everytime to drive is not very appealing to me.
Very simple..... Prada America's Cup. I have 6 pair and they make them in way too many colors and fabrics to list here. Cost is about $380 and they are very comfortable to walk in, and also skinny enough with perfect support for driving my 355. If it's cold out I wear them; if it is warm, its barefoot, baby!!! Here's a Google image of my favorite colored pair. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Sperry Topsiders - the simplest version. I get them about a size too small, and soak them to stretch to my feet, like a second skin, as they dry (around my toes, the leather looks like a pencil tracing of my foot). Reason? I don't like a lot of overhang of the sole past my "known" edges of my feet/toes, as close to sewing the rubber sole to the bottoms of my feet as possible. Best of both being barefoot, and being protected by shoes when running around. BTW - The new "foot gloves" don't appeal to me, though, because of the prospect of catching one of the separated toes on a corner of something, interesting as they are (our own WJHMH loves his).
Wait, so Tod's are not comfortable for walking, wearout quickly and look like crap, leak water quickly, and are pretty expensive.... OK why does anyone buy these?? For the name?
Puma Drift Cats are what I am using right now, found them close out at Marshalls. I have also bought Pilotis dumping at Ross, have not worn them as much.....
Puma also made some yachting shoes...VOLVO Cup...they are Ferrari 'orange" for some reason, nice shoes.....found them at Marshalls also.....
Pumas last about 6 months to a year I find. Too soft, after a while they can't get any tighter on the feet and become glorified slippers with 6 feet of extra laces. Piloti's look like bowling alley rental shoes to me. I've worn my cycling shoes with cleat covers before while driving. While it sounded like a good idea, the drawback is the slippery heel. They were so cheap I bought several pair!! LOL! I don't use them much EXCEPT for driving so they have lasted "okay"... I agree on Pilotis, that's why they are still 'new"! Although I bought a subtle color combo.....
I used to try driving my manual truck without shoes and I felt it was much more difficult barefoot. For some reason I could get a better feel for the clutch engagement point when I had shoes on.
I flat don't get the barefoot thing. All I can picture is some hairy clod of a hobbit foot...please stay away from my car. I heel-toe downshifts without thinking, every time through the gears, rock back and forth between the pedals, sometimes left foot braking...it's impossible to truly *drive* without a good shoe on, not to mention just more sanitary. I like the Pumas too, but the Ferrari-branded ones are just plain loud. The Pilotis are better and I like the style.
None of my Drift Cats are branded...they are plain. I think it's illegal in Texas to drive without shoes, it seems that was one of the things they'd hassle us about, on the beach.....
I have a pair of Tod moccasins that are Ferrari branded, brown suede with red stitching, and red strorage bags. I bought them in 2001 and the back bottom nubs are now just getting worn. I wear them about once a week. If it rains you are screwed and then you have the nice smell of wet leather. Love them and they are very comfortable.
