Recently tried to buy a California from a Chicago area Ferrari dealer. Was told I “must” purchase the $4900 power warranty or they would not sell the car. Is this normal for all dealers? They wouldn’t take the full asking price either??? Does Ferrari Corp require this transaction??

No I’ve never heard it being required. I suspect there’s good margins to be made on the warranty and hence the desire to sell it.

What do you mean they wouldn’t take the full asking price?

I offered to pay their asking price and was turned down because I didn’t want to add the warranty. Never ever heard of such craziness.

Ahh gotcha. So their price seems to really be advertised price + warranty.

I did walk. Just wanted to ask if this is standard practice at the dealers so I can avoid all of them. Funny thing is I mentioned I was changing the exhaust and they told me the warranty would void. So why would I buy it again???

Yeah. Walk or maybe try a different sales person there if it’s the car you really want. I hate playing dealer games….

What dealership? There are only two that I know of, and I would like to know for the future. If you don't feel comfortable posting here (although you shouldn't care), you can PM me.

    Thanks.

@henryr - What a ridiculous thing to say.

That's BS. It's probably due to the current short supply. But skip it, you can find many Cali without that requirement. Go to a different dealer.

Also remember, this is just a powertrain warranty, just don't want this to happen to you.

Its certainly not normal, they must have too many customers with too much money if they are playing games like that

If you were willing to pay asking for on of the 3 they have in stock, you could easily get a better deal somewhere else in the US and have it shipped home within your budget. There's no shortage of Cali's for sale right now. That dealer can pound sand.

Hello everyone, my name is Jordan T. Fisher, sales specialist at Ferrari Lake Forest(Illinois). After carefully reading through the communications posted I would like to formally share that we are not the dealership he is referring to nor would I or anyone at our facility force anyone into purchasing any additional coverages.

I'll add though, you might want to strongly consider coverage of the DCT transmission and roof mechanism/motors. Those fail and are very expensive to fix.

It might have been wrongly stated that you must buy the warranty, but you have to consider whether the warranty fear is reasonable. For early Californias there is some level of risk.

That roof is going be a serious pain. I just spent close to 20 hours repairing a 360 roof that was "unrepairable" according to the dealer. I can just imagine how these roofs in the California's and 458s will start to fail in the years to come.

Currently most issues I have seen have been fairly simple repairs..but looking at pricing and current availability of parts..it's gonna get ugly. That warranty may not be a bad idea to consider..

These dealer games seem to be a US thing. The dealers don't realise that they give the brand a bad name and I imagine would turn away some who would consider ownership but read the crap would be owners go through and just cross the road to Porsche and Lamborghini.
