At the recent Concorso Italiano apparently this Lusso was parked with Meade modifications to the front. S/N? Image Unavailable, Please Login
The owners are a nice couple who live in Hawaii and keep the car in a warehouse in Burlingame, CA. Tom Meade had a hand in it, but I think the work was done by Fantuzzi, or someone like that. They gave me a write-up sheet with the info they had on it, but I have it at home. I can post the info this weekend. -steve
I'm sure it's 4383, a Tom Meade special sometimes confused with 4385, which was actually done by the factory. Some 25 or so years ago Meade advertised it (and tried to sell it to me) as a "Ferrari GTO body on SWB Lusso chassis", as he described it in the Autoweek ad. It isn't. The nose is likely from a 275, and may have been fitted after an accident. O.G.
Good to see you posting again, seems you had been away for a little bit. Always enjoy your information thanks
So it's basically just a hack job? But since it was done 30 years ago, everybody drools over it at a car show. And if it was done last week and put up for sale on E-Bay, it would be considered an abortion. As always, you gotta love the Ferrari double standards: with a flip of the hand and a toss of the scarf, "Oh Skippy, don't you just adorrrrre this Meade especiale. Pass the grey poupon." Three weeks later on E-Bay, some Joe Blow builds up the same type of car and we would hear: with a swoon and the back of the hand to the forehead, "Oh Skippy, can you belieeeeevvve that somebody would do such a horrible thing to a Ferrari. Pass me the wine so I can wash this bad taste from my mouth."
Agreed. His more subtle modification of 4587GT is much better and actually looks like a direction that Pininfarina could have taken with the original design: Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Ferrari built a Lusso Speciale for Sergio Pininfarina with a similar covered-headlight design. Does it still exist...? John
Wayne, A few GTE's were similarly done but I don't think they were done by Meade. In my opinion, the alteration is historically interesting but stylistically irrelevant. Arlie, Many people look at and read about Ferraris while wearing rose colored glasses. I wonder what color filters you wear when you read F-chat. Its a modified Ferrari done by a person known in Ferrari circles, probably done when the original nose got bent, nothing more nothing less. The next owner can put on a stock front clip if he wants. In another thread, a post stated that the new owner of the time capsule Daytona Spyder is going repaint it and drive it - eliminating its time capsule status. Do you approve or disapprove? Regards, Art S.
4335 GT, yes it does exist. The owner is of the low-profile type, which is why it hasn't been seen in public for some time.
The attached (bad) scans of photos show a Lusso at the 1996 TLFIP meeting in Mugello. The car was very beautifully modified to LMB specs (externally). Comparing it to the real 330 LMB also present, the only major difference was the wheelbase. Anybody know the chassis number? Anatol Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
4383 GT, originally owned by Luciano and Gianfranco Pederzani of Bologna, owners of Tecno race car manufacturers. Not a Tom Meade special but done by Carrozzeria Medardo Fantuzzi in Modena in the late 60s. Today the car has a restamped engine to match the chassis number, internal engine number is now 1704/62. Original internal engine number was 992/62. See also page 8 of Cavallino magazine issue #31 and page 12 of Cavallino #50. Marcel Massini
There's a nice track shot in this thread of a Lusso with an interesting front end (LMB ?). http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=135216806&postcount=10 Cheers Simon Edit. I see Boudewijn has already identified it a few posts later http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=135217235&postcount=16
For a minute, you shocked me. I thought you meant the *real* time capsule Daytona spyder (the one with 80 miles on it, not 1400) was being repainted and driven. The 1400 mile car is just a very nice (and expensive) used car.
BumpBump. Anybody know the car? Any idea about the chassis number? Would love to know. After all these years, I still have not seen a better copy of an LMB on a Lusso basis. Thanks, Anatol
I dont like any of the Lussos posted here. This is IMO , the best : http://www.duncanhamilton.com/carsforsale/CarDetails.asp?ID=414
Sorry if this sounds sketchy, maybe Marcel will know something. Tom Meade did a 'special' back in the day, after these Lusso's posted, called 'something III' and it was on the cover of Road & Track when it debuted. I'm guessing early 70's. If anybody knows anything about that car, what happened to it, etc, it would be interesting to hear. That thing was insanely wild, ostentatious... everything. Personally I love it, but I know I'm going to get a lot of 'monstrosity' calls if anyone can find a picture of the thing.
