Well..I had my last a 1/4 to 6pm last night..still going..That coffee was a toughie to drink with out my smoke though...feel better about myself though Tom
Feel exactly the same mate, substitute the coffee for tea though, mealtimes are tough, the first thing i normally do after a meal is have a smoke, i have eaten 2 bags of jelly babies though i will be addicted to them next
Glad to see you boys are sticking at it. One of the good things about quitting smoking is you finally realise that all food doesn't taste of Nicotine, but actually has different tastes and smells. The bad side to this is you finally realise after all these years that the Wife's cooking really is crap. Keep going guys. I have every faith in you!
Well guys it is the second day and boy is this tough, i am struggling but still determined to see it through, everywhere i look there is someone looking back at me and smoking a cigarette, my Wife says that i have the worst case of PMT that she as ever seen and my Daughter as gone into hiding, i have to go to get more jelly babies now see you later.
A good GP (doc) can give you some meds to take the edge off. There are a couple that also are used for depression that help quite a bit. OR, just drink and pass out. That'll buy you a few hours peace. HANG TOUGH!!! You'll thank yourself in 30 years, because you got those years. DM
Yes the drink i like that idea, but when i drink i want sex and after sex i want a smoke, sh*t i am going to a Monastery tomorrow
The first time I quit (successfully) I was luckily unemployed (that would've pushed me over the edge) and I also completely immobilized myself with a huge quantity of alcohol for four days straight which had two distinct side effects- 1) I was so sh*tfaced that couldn't drive my car anywhere to buy any cigarettes and 2) I was so hung over that I spent most of the days in bed. Of course, I started up again a year later, so now I need a new course of action.. doh! Good Luck.. I actually miss not smoking now! -Chris
Hang in there and don't give up!!! Like has been said before if you can get past the first couple weeks you will have it made. Just keep thinking about all the reasons you quit. REMEMBER... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Solution: 1.Take up bricklaying course at local college 2. Using new found skills, build a brick wall in the back garden 3. Use same wall to crawl up!!! don't take your mind off it but keeps you occupied
Right on Steve! A week is a major milestone! One day at a time. A little trick I used to use was when the time came when I "needed" a smoke I would tell myself, "Okay, if you still want one tomorrow at this time you can have one". 24 hours would pass and I wouldn't want one or forget about the time. It worked!
ATTA GUY!!!! you lungs than you, your arteries thank you, and best of all, I bet your family thanks you. KEEP IT UP!!! It has to get easier from here, right? DM
Hi mate, it is 17 days now and i am still not smoking, and it feels great, i dont smell like an ashtray anymore, and even though it has not been that long i actually feel a lot fitter, other benefits are me and my wife can sit in a restaurant for a meal without me dissapearing every 15 mins for a smoke, i can watch a whole film in the cinema, in all it was one of the best decisions that i have ever made, thanks for the support. Steve.
Congrats Steve, I'm sure there are many of us here who have quit. One of my biggest personal accomplishments 15+ yrs ago. I tried Nicorette... never worked for me. When you're ready, you're ready. For those of you considering quitting, never quit forever. If it's 8:00AM your first morning, just quit until noon. If you make it, quit until 5:00, then quit until tomorrow. Take it a day at a time... just stick with it. I also went through about 50 packs of Trident sugarless gum when I quit and it really helped me get over the physical part... wonder what kind of cancer I'll get from that?! Looking back, quitting smoking was the number one best thing I ever did for myself... just wish I would have never started in the first place.
After start reading this Thread(a week ago)...I made my mind.. Is been a week now for me with no cigarette...I feel great I must say...I even quit drinking my morning coffee and I feel fine.I maybe had=ve 1 or 2 espesso's and I'm ok without cigarette.... This thread and some of you with your thoughts played a part of it.. THANK YOU
I found that by quiting I no longer felt like a second class citizen. Being ecluded from functions and worrying when I'll get the chance to have the next smoke. FREEDOM! Cool!
I figure I'm on my 35,000th pack of Extra sugarless since I quite drinking 15 years ago. 4 years without a cigarette and don't miss it a bit. No more granulated sugar now either. Helps with those mood swings. No more girl friend too, what am I ging to do with all of that extra money? (Testarossa I think...................) All I need to do now is to chant a mantra in my orange robe and I could be be a monk inTibet.
good for you guys for quitting smoking. look at it this way if you smoked a pack a day for lets say 25 years: 10.25 (canadian dollars with tax) x 25 (years) x 365 (days per year) ------------------- 93531 + some change Its alot of money. Even if you smoke the cheapest pack of ***s. if You smoke a pack that was 20 bucks then it would be even more expensive. Plus your puting your self at risk for dosens of differant cancers
