Any users out there? I just bought this unit so I don't get lost while driving (it's a GPS navigation unit). There is a free database of London speed cameras and red light cameras and gatsos. I'll give it a shot tomorrow, it's setup such that it makes a sound of your choice once you get within 250 yards (or your choice) of a camera. I wonder how accurate these user supplied camera coordinates are. Would love to share experience with the unit with others.

    hello mate

I use the checkpoint database and the coordinates are spot on. Ive got some weird woman saying "speed cmera within 30 seconds". Ive never yet found a speed camera that hasnt been listed - this also includes speed cameras that are setup when roadworks are going on.

The database is updated every week so its important to stay on top.
The new release this week actually has the mobile speed camera locations and motorway side police locations....

Excellent as far as Im concerned. Backup with with a road angel it makes a powerful system.

Yes I think they are crap. What is the point in a unit telling where all the static cameras are, even if they are not on?
I use a Valentine 1 this tells you if the cameras are on or not, much better, also warns of mobile traps etc

I had a Valentine 1 about 5 years ago and it was garbage! Set off by all sorts of spurious signals. As good as useless in London as it gave false alarms so often i never trusted it.

Got a road angel a while back and it's been excellent.

Interested to hear about the TomTom though, as used having satnav in the beemer now and miss it in the 355..................

Stu, I use Go in the 355, and it is absolutely fantastic. One self contained unit, no cradles etc to worry about - suctions onto the windscreen.

Directions are superb, maps excellent, points of interest etc (nearest petrol station / parking facility / restaurants etc). Touch screen. Audio quality is superb and can be heard clearly over the 355 engine.

Can't think of anything to fault it on.

I use the tomtom software with an ipaq - it's the same software - and checkpoint for the speed cameras, etc.

It does warn on cameras correctly, although won't tell you if they are active, and often will pick up one on a parallel road if you are on a motorway for example. Also the POI ocassionally directs you to a 'nearest' petrol station miles away from the nearest petrol station!

Great for navigation but I wouldn't rely on it as a sole protector from Gatso-man. Warning on the navigation - mostly great but my b!tch-in-a-box does sometimes get confused about turning/bearing left/right on sharpish corners, and I once blindly followed her directions in a huge circle for about 20 mins when she got confused about which level of a carriageway I was on (criss-crossy junctions with over and underpasses). B!tch.
