The table of annual production numbers in the article seemed to indicate that there were more 430 built than 360 per year.

Most of that increase attributed to the new F149 (or whatever they call it).

It's typical Motor Trend, the Wikipedia of automotive journalism:

"Ferrari's engine plant, which also builds V-8s for Maserati and Alfa Romeo, is currently producing seven V-12s for every 612 engine."

"You will remember that the little V-6 mid-engine Dino 206 and later 246 GT -- they were never officially badged Ferrari -- was produced between 1967 and 1995[...]"

If they get anything right it's just a lucky shot.

I guess they're using Oompa Loompas to build these secret cars? Why not, they're not much shorter than Italians.......

Doesn't look like the new car is going to be an entry level vehicle..... Replacement for the 612? Anything would be better than that boat.

We ***** if they don't make enough, we ***** if they increase production. I think it's great they are increasing production. Hopefully it will reduce some of this rediculously long wait lists and 20-50% mark ups.

I don't have the number, however, I recall someone posted a total 360 production number in a recent thread.

huh? wikipedia is highly accurate, demonstrably more so than their chief rival, brittanica. furthermore, it's quickly and easily correctable by any visitor. moron trend is a MARKETING vehicle (excuse the pun), not journalism, and only cares about accuracy so far as they can grow their advertising revenue. to even compare the two is laughable.

i don't mean to go off on you, just setting the record straight.

Both publish opinion and worse as fact, without even rudimentary fact checking.

Not to thread hijack but, here's a specific and relevant example of Wikipedia's puerile assault on knowledge,

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiat_124_Sport_Spider#Production

which begat yet another rather annoyingly obtuse F-Chat thread:

    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=183427

Provide me a proper citation to any media concerning any FIAT 124 with any engine by Ferrari, even a garagiste one-off, and I will capitulate. (I'm the one who added "citation required" to the Wiki FIAT 124 - Ferrari entry, not the original "author".)

18,000 360's produced? Wow...I would love to see a ramped up production of their mid-engine vehicle's. I understand that it drops residuals, but it may also drop those incredibly greedy dealerships from marking these vehicles up FAR more than they're worth. Even if value is determined by its market, it doesn't mean the market is acting rationally.

Just drove a friends 612 two weeks ago and i was amazed by the performance of the car...its not 430, but its not that that far off and the car is beautiful inside and very comfortable for 4 people...and 4.1sec 0-60 with a high reving v12...not too shabby a "boat"...i know its an unloved Ferrari but if i had the means to have my everyday 4 seater a 612, i certainly would...btw, my friend also has a 430 for his weekend fun car.....

try modifying a MT or any other magazine article so that future readers see your correction. or more relevant to wikipedia vs their competition, try getting an EB article changed. hell, is EB even going to have an entry for a specific model of a car?

of course there will be errors here and there. the articles they have in my field are in some cases highly erroneous and in some cases just marketing pieces by the authors. but instead of declaring wikipedia junk, i'd think you should celebrate the fact that someone with better information can correct it. unlike a glossy magazine like MT, wikipedia has no profit motive and actually cares about correctness. wikipedia actually gets better as more folks use it. MT necessarily does the opposite -- it gets more dumbed down and more sensational as their audience gets larger. MT will never, ever, publish an article which offends one of their advertisers.

i can't see how they could be more different.

How do you know the guy who fabricated the Ferrari FIAT 124 didn't do so to plump the value of a car he was trying to sell?

I can't think of any other reason.

    ...Wikipedia _is_ Junk Academia.

    Oh please.

One small point up for debate over one piece of minutae and you're ready to throw the baby out with the bathwater ?

The article you point to, on the Fiat 124, proves the point of what a wonderfully accurate resource Wikipedia is. There is NO other page on the web that comes anywhere CLOSE to providing as much detailed information on this particular car.

Is it perfect ? No, but you've proven how easy it to improve accuracy, or rather question the accuracy, by making a request for a citation.

I really don't understand the popularity of wikipedia-bashing. Brittania, as an example, has a fraction of the information offered by wikipedia, by nature out-of-date, is very expensive and offers no easy method of peer-review, and yet it seems like it's beyond reproach....
