Too Much of a Geezer for a 458?

I am 65 and have a 360 F1 Spider. My dealer says the waiting list for a 458 Spider is ~3 years. That would make me 68.

My dealer has a couple of Rosso Corsa 458s in stock. One has tan interior with diamond seats with red stitching. And it has the uber headlights with the lift. Gorgeous car for $305k. Is this a good deal?

I really think a true sports car is one where you sit outside (a convertible aka spider).

Since I have never driven a 458 (I am afraid I will love it and buy the one with diamond seats) should I insist on a test drive?

I love my 360 and am happy with it. Sure, the 458 has more fabulous high tech stuff. And of course it is faster. But the 360 is really fast enough. More interested in all the toys (XM Radio, navigation, heated seats, lift, bluetooth...). Is this stuff worth $200k net???

    Suggestions?

I ordered one a few months ago that totalled about $265-270 MSRP. It's coming in Oct.

To me, I would try to see if you can get one ordered. But, if you want all those options, it's not a horrible deal.

Cross hatched seats are very rare. Daytona's are first followed by racing seats followed by stock followed by cross hatched.

Yes, insist on a test drive. But, I warn you-- I traded my F430 in a week later. It's that good.

Warning a test drive could cost you!! About 6 weeks ago I traveled to Continental to buy their F-430 three pedal car. I only spent an hour behind the 458 and tried and tried to NOT like it and find fatal flaws. I returned the car and when asked about the 430 test drive, I said we need to finalize my 458 order. That was mid June and like others here, I have a October production slot on a coupe!

68 and driving a Ferrari??? Heck Yah!! 68 is the new 50................
Just don't wear a thick as your arm gold chain, a gaudy toupee, and be sure you only leave the top button of your shirt undone. All three of the above and a 25 y/o second wife in the passenger seat and you are definitely too old for the car............

    Tony.........................

I am sure you have heard it all before.....life is too short....60 is the new 50 or 40 or whatever.

All I know is if you are driving a 360 spider now and you have a really good test drive of a 458, you will figure a way to get a 458 or 458 spider.

It really is that much fun......at least is was to me and several others here on Fchat.

Now comparing it to the 360 is kind of like comparing sex with a 65 year old and a 25 year old......the 360 is a really nice experience, even still thrilling but the 458 is a completely different generation......it's wild and forbidden and........or a....well hopefully you know what I mean, because I don't have a clue, just ask my wife, right honey:)

I saw both examples in stock the other day. The two tone Rosso Corsa with black top looks fantastic but I did notice an unusual crack on the front bumper (drivers side) of the other. The crack goes from the bottom part of the bumper, up towards the headlight. You may want to take a closer look at that if you decide to pull the trigger.

Good eye. I was not looking that close. It does have 3M.

The top of the other car is wrapped. Looks nice but am still up in the air on the bi-color idea. No 3M.

I suggest that you not drive the 458 because you'll want one, whether it's ordered or one already at the dealer. In one day back to back I drove a 430 spyder, 599 and 458...at the local dealer. Ordered a 458, or should I say went on the wait list and 11 months later ordered a 458 with October build this year. The 458 was amazing!

My sex life is fine. At least I am not getting any complaints.

I am thinking the 458 needs to be ordered with the factory fire extinguisher option.

Or is this standard now? ;)

Age really isnt of any importance, there is a gentleman down here who is well over 70 and drives his 599 GTO like he stole it, on the track, sideways around every corner, his enthusiasm for his Ferrari's(has a 612 as well) knows no bounds, he drive them cross country regularly.

Go for the test drive. You will probably like it enough to buy it and get yourself on the wait list for the spyder. Good luck

I'm no 458 expert, but did drive one for about 1/2 hour back when it first came out (the owner got one of the first here in NJ and he drove my 360 while I drove his 458 that day). The 458 is easier/smoother riding/softer to drive than a 360- it has the ability to turn into a screaming sport bike like performer with 4 wheels instead of just 2 in an INSTANT, but as far as being 68 years old and getting a 458, I think it would be an easier car to drive not harder than the 360 you already have.

That said, I would add two comments- 68 isn't old, and your ferrari (either your 360 or if you get a 458) probably takes years off you- even decades :)

Phil, why not get the cheaper one (~299) with the nice black interior? Black is the new tan.

I am in FoD all the time and have seen both cars. The all-Rosso Corsa w tan cross-stitched interior is amazing - like the wheels better on that one too. The two-tone is a wrap and has the aforementioned crack (which I am sure FoD would take care of...). If it was me and I have the means I would trade the 360 and get the all-red one that is in-stock and watch the Aspens turn color this year owning a 458!

BTW - 68 is young my friend but the clock is ticking so if you like the one in-stock just pull the trigger and call it a day!

BTW - Mark and Derek are awesome to work with at FoD. I work 5 minutes away so if you want any pics taken or legwork done let me know.

    Cheers :)

    I am 66 now. 4 year wait for a spider. That's 70!

Perhaps I can get a "pre-owned" spider to suit my needs. 4 yrs seems like a LONG time.

Buy what you want as soon as you can. To me "winning" is having what you want when you want it. The older you get the faster the time goes. Also, 4 years will not seem long once it arrives. Whether 25 or 75 life is lived - Best

70 is the new 50. Go for it. Coupe or Spider, driving a Ferrari keeps you young.
