I have watched this thread and several others with great interest. Between FChat and other sources I have managed to find everything from museum-quality kits to reasonable copies... for everything except the 308 2-valve vintage cars.

Any suggestions on where to find such an animal? Many owners of driver-quality cars have expressed an interest in something other than the $5K museum pieces... where to start?

Thanks, in advance, for any kind suggestions from the cognoscenti...

For a long time, Ferrari Classic Parts in the UK offered a "328 roll", for about $400.

I don't know if Ferrari still offers this restrospective option, but given the $$$ on the table now a days, I would think they would!!

It has modern screwdrivers and pliers, but really, all you needed to add was the Carb Tool (from Pierce Manifolds) and the repro Emergency Window Crank (Superformance).

As I once owned three early cars, I trip over a lug wrench every time I walk thru my kitchen...I'm sure it goes "somewhere"....

If one wanted to buy the original 308 took kit, what should it cost?

Another option is to build your own.

As the cost of the tool and jack kits exploded, I removed mine from the car.

    I replaced with this:

    Ferrari Logo 190 246 250GT 275 330 365GT Tool Roll | eBay

And added similar, but potentially more useful tools from my local tool vendor.

It may be a little cheesy, but I don't worry about it being stolen.
Plus, with my VIN embroidered on the kit, there is no aftermarket for it, should it be stolen.

Interesting options, both, Sid. I have toyed with the Superformance kit for a while, and would have already pulled the trigger if it had vintage-looking screwdrivers. The canvas roll it interesting, too, as it makes no apology about being a replacement.

BTW, are you going to be at the regional events this weekend? If so, I'll look you up.

North of $1000 I would think for the current market if you are looking for a complete and original set. And most sets around $1000 are missing a few pieces.

If you want to gather them piece by piece... The older orange translucent handled screwdrivers are particularly hard to come by these days and other types are usually available. The pouch, window crank, pliers, carb tool and plug wrench can be found from time to time. Wrenches of different make are quite abundant.

What is the deal with a lot of 308's missing their tool sets. I might take mine out of my care and put it in my safe, it' appears to be worth more than gold.

I believe the later carb tool kit is what you will find in the 2V cars, likely to have the carb tool as well.

Orange screwdrivers, Polytools wrenches, Black Z shaped window crank, red/orange sheath pliers, 14mm plug wrench and the 4(screwdrivers)+8(wrenches)+1(window crank)+2(pliers)+1(plug wrench) pockets tool pouch. Add the carb tool or not to your preference.

eBay is the most likely place to find one, other recyclers will have them from time to time. There are lots of repros out there.

Thanks, Steven. I have kept an eagle eye on eBay for the past 18 months, and other than a couple of nice kits well over $2K I haven't seen much. I haven't seen any from recyclers, and the only repro kit I am aware of is the Superformance one.

If you have any links or suggestions, fire away!

That's the single big plyers pocket model, just for 328 and not for 308: the 308 one has two smaller pockets instead of a big one. In my opinion, it's not reasonably priced as it costs more or less 280 euro (+ 20% VAT, total price is more or less 320 euro) and the tools inside are worthless today tools. My copy is in two models, one for 308 and one for 328 and costs 175 euro, without any worthless tools that you can find everywhere at 30 euro all. My one costed me (in a single piece, one 328 that now is at Nerofer home and one 308 that is the one pictured: I have no others, so I have to ask to have another one if someone buys that 308 one) euro 120. I asked euro 55 more for the time lost (i went two times to the interior specialist shop to have it done). So I think that if had asked to have it made in 20 copies, maybe it costs euro 50 each.

    ciao

Well all repro kits are not really faithful reproductions close enough to original standards unfortunately. So if you just want something similar, try these:
    Superperformance, as you already know;
http://www.autoepoca.it/ferrariparts/ in the middle of the list
http://www.ferraripartsexchange.com/tools.htm first few ones of the list
    and
http://www.italiancarparts.com/parts/308.html towards the end of the list

Genuine OEM ones are really difficult and often very costly. Complete 2V sets were not spotted for the past 2 years myself but there are quite often incomplete sets floating around, and they are usually gone in less than a week too.

If you want to gather your own OEM kit, good luck and prepare to spend some real $ cuz I don't think anything decent can be obtained cheaply in reality.

Or, you can built OEM-lookalike with available faithful repro items. But these are not cheap at all... For example the Ferrari Parts Exchange repro screwdrivers are listed as $72-84 each but actually over $100 when you ask (yeah I have checked).

    Supply and demand I guess...

A complete toolkit (correct, complete and with everything original) is almost impossible to find, and when you finally find out one, the price is very but very high, thousands of dollars

No, Unfortunately, I won't be there. It's HS reunion weekend - plus OU/Texas weekend (I have a daughter in the Pride).

I'll catch you at another event.

With prices seeming to run about $3K or more, I felt it was safer to leave both kits at home. I'll take them to shows, but for normal activities and Cars and Coffee - I'll make do with a canvas roll of tools that I put together.

    $1200.

That was a complete, original set, from one of my cars.
I gave it up, to a 'glass car...(now on the market)

Damn right, you keep them inside.
Things like that have a way of disappearing with the trunk lid open!!!

76-77 versions so not Polytools wrenches! I don't keep carb cars so I'll pass, ha! :D

Actually it's still possible to assemble OEM kits, I'm onto my third now. Don't ask about the cost, need a hobby :p

    No, Everest wrenches.

I laugh though as at Harbor Freight, the $10 wrenches say, like our Everest ones...
    Forged in India.

    Polytools are nicer castings.

And some how, I have gathered a set of Mercedes ones, that are nicer yet again!!
    Cheers!

You guys are awesome. I have learned more in one day than in my past 18 months of scrounging and digging combined. Thanks for sharing.
