    Oh my!

You are correct, and then some, look what I found here:

    https://www.scuderiacarparts.com/part/235797/ferrari/310096/sound-generator.html#fitment

    Models with 'sound generator'
    488 GTB
    F12 TDF
    California T
    488 Spider
    GTC4Lusso T
    488 Pista
    488 Pista Spider
    F8 Tributo

(also SF90 and 296 but not the link above)

seems the 458 family and 812 (and F12B, FF and Lusso V12?) do not have a 'sound generator'

eurospares says this very same part number is also used in the SF90, and apparently the 812 had some "resonator pipes" (without this sound generator part) up to assembly #156812. The F12 (not TdF) had a similar pipes arrangement.

This is my favourite perspective out of all the videos which appeared this week.

it’s honest and exciting, he admits not being a track day regular and how it all felt.

The typical journalists I find boring and not a real representation of an individual who owns the vehicle, and works towards owning the vehicle. They also don’t get to really learn what makes these cars so damn exciting.

Is the sound generator not different than the hot tube? I thought the hot tube carried the engine sound into the cabin.

Here's an interesting recording of the sound, which features some of the turbo blowoff noises a bit more forward (start around 8:58). I think this will be a car that needs to be driven to truly arrive at a verdict...

Of course! I suppose my point is that sound is harder to capture, and then ensure faithful reproduction at the viewer's end, than almost any other aspect of a car review. Performance can be illustrated by numbers, the look can be shown by quality camera work, comfort and even the feel of materials can be described relatively adequately with words. Sound, however, not so much. Especially when there's so much going on: turbo whine, blowoff valve noises, induction noise, exhaust noise, electric whine, etc. So many layers! While the car looks the same in every review, you'll notice that it sounds different in many of them.

The only aspect of the car that is more difficult to capture than sound is the emotion. This is, of course, impossible since everyone will experience it differently!

Its the same thing. Notice how many didn't know that the 488 GTB had it. In the F8 they gave it a new name and carried it to the 296 GTB.

It has the same part number 310096 . And yest has the same tube carrying it to the cabin. Ferrari just didn't advertise it on the 488 GTB but did on the F8 because of the GPF's. This clearly shows how silent the F8 engine is. The GPF has certainly choked off the exhaust sound.

Told you ;) They just didn't advertise it. The first time they did was on the F8 because they knew the F8 with the GPF would be way down in sound. Introduced for Turbos. Even Maserati had them .

I have a different opinion. I love to drive my Speciale like a maniac, but also would gladly get a 296 GTS as replacement for my Ftype, which is my daily drive. This way I’d have the hardcore one when I need it, and a daily “cruiser” that looks fresh inside (those plastic buttons from the 458 are kind of a joke these days), while being powerful enough to have fun on my way to work. I’d definitely drive it much more than my Speciale that I still want to “preserve” a bit. Plus, being also a Tesla owner I’m actually sold over electric power

So the $400,000 296 is deemed valuable as a capable, comfortable daily driver to replace a $60000 Jaguar . Doubt if this was Ferrari's goal in developing the 296.

Well, the jag is fun to drive, sounds nice, looks awesome and you can take the top down.

By looking at the 296 video reviews, it looks like you can turn that car from a quiet / comfortable ride to a monster in a instant, a bit like what the Tesla does, but with the Ferrari pedigree and a very capable V6, hopefully with the Targa top down soon too. In my opinion, it looks great too.

So yeah, definitely a good upper scale replacement. I think their goal is to take the brand to the future, and it looks like a nice step to me.
