http://www.autospies.com/news/Rumor-Leno-and-Seinfeld-may-host-NBC-s-Top-Gear-26059/ And to think neither ever owned a Ferrari
There's no way these guy's will host this show. Car stuff is dicey and they're not going to risk a possible mediocre unproven show(Stateside version) that'll perhaps be a black mark on their careers. Just a little blog hype is all this is. Guest appearances, yes.
Even though he's Mr.Porsche personified, I found it refreshing the Sein always drove a Saab Conv. or 5 series in the show. Leno likes Citroens and Saabs among other things, so he's an obvious candidate, but both of them together are a little too blancmange for my liking. For me, it might work if they have a person who detests both of them and the ground they walk on doing color. Someone like AJ for instance ... As for the original, I tend to enjoy the guests on TG more than JC himself and his two wannabes. Granted, the guys have had some funny bits, but JC isn't as funny as he thinks he is and that grows constantly more tiresome. Each week he resorts to the same schtick, an over the top slagging off on cars that don't deserve it, primarily to keep interest up and its becoming more transparent every episode. TG is good but there really isn't any competition to match it against and I'm hoping against probability the US version will offer some.
Leno as himself in Leno's garage, as good and informative as it is, features Leno as remarkably boring, or, at best, very not "on." He may do this as an escape from his Tonight Show schtick. I wonder what persona he would assume for Top Gear.
I just don't think it will live up to the UK version no matter who they get, I just can't see an american Clarkson.
Don't remember a 5 series, but do remember the 3er in the episode where George is arguing for a parking spot. Well, it is NBC, so they can. Considering they are both car guys, I think this makes sense. And seeing how Leno is/has been on NBC for so long, and Seinfeld had a huge sitcom for the network it's not surprising these two guys are being considered. I do think they need a "Hampster-esque" personality though.
They would never be as good as the other three. Jeremy with his controversy, Hammond with his helplessness, and May just being May. Sure Leno and Seinfeld are funny, but BBC hit the mega million jackpot with the three presenters on the original Top Gear.
Hey Top Gear is funny, it's got a great sense of spoof. But it's not really a car show. It's entertainment with cars. Really sorry to hear that NBC is thinking of celebs, even the likes of Leno and Seinfeld. Although they are real car guys, and quite sharp ones too, a celeb show will end up being too focused on them in place of the cars. Won't anyone ever do a real car sow, one that really gets into cars? sigh, Jon
Any US ripoff of the BBC Top Gear is bound to be lame. One of the things that makes TG work is that it is decidedly un-PC. Anyone see the episode where they bought 3 used cars in Miami for under $1,000 and drove them to New Orleans? No American network would have touched some of the stuff they did. Jack
Haha, I also love the African version of that. "OOOOLLLLLLLIIIIIIIVVVVVVEEEEEERRRRR!!!!!!" ~Richard Hammond
we to down under will have our own top gear show will start soon.... think the three stooges are coming here to lauch it...........
No presenters have been named and no one listed as being "in negotiation".. however the show will have four hosts (one a secret test driver). *This according to an industry database available to Hollywood exec's producers or anyone else who can afford the ridiculous monthly fee to be the 1st in the office to know who is doing what.
They are both really cool car guys, but, Leno is in way too good with GM and does little stuff for them, which isn't good. Seinfeld is an awesome car guy and actually know how to work on the quirks that his Porsche's sometimes have... Still, I wouldn't really want to see either on Top Gear simply because I want to see good random people instead of having people we already know and like.
i think this show will suck because lenno only likes mullet sleds and jerry only likes porches. see the guys at the uk top gear have a bit more open opinion when it coes to cars
The US version would end up being like Motorweek and it would be heavy into Pickups and SUV's I'll stick to the UK Version.
I have a little hope for the US version of Top Gear, because NBC also took The Office and made it an American show with great sucess. Let's just hope they can do the same with top gear. There is an awesome Top gear challenge where they have to buy italian exotics for under 10 or 15 thousand pounds. They get a Ferrari, Maserati, and mabey a Lambo.
You are probably right but it is being made for the North American public otherwise they would just air the original here there has to be a difference and last time I looked Main stream North America still loves there trucks and suv's (god knows why)....
