I like the UK show, and really am not interested in a US copy.

I give it about a 25% of working.... just such high standards to try and follow. The UK threesome just "work".

I would have like to see Leno be the main host. Who better qualified to know "a bunch about cars" and his wise cracks could offer up the comedy. Going with Carrola is like taking "Leno Lite".

I think the reason Top Gear UK does so well cause it's sponsors don't influence the cast members. If anyone watches/reads Car and Driver, Motor Trend, Auto Week, etc... A Ford Escort is a great car. That's cause they don't want to lose Ford as a sponsor.

Absolutely. Top Gear UK can tell it like it is. You'll never see an objective car show on U.S. TV.

Tanner Foust is horrible on that equally horrid "supercars" show on Speed. He's a complete juvenile, and he doesn't even have his facts straight. Adam could be OK, his work has been good in the past to me, but quite a genre change. Don't have any idea who the third guy is.

Part of what makes Top Gear is the British style and humor. It's an intelligent show, and it appeals to more than just the enthusiast (like my wife). I am also amazed at how accurate they are with their descriptions. I agree that they their opinions are remarkably unbiased beyond the regularly stated likes/dislikes (Clarkson loves Ferrari, not a Porsche fan; Hammond loves the P-cars...)

But he bought the Gallardo over the F430. But I do agree he's not a Porsche fan but they ALL give fair opinions and know what they're talking about. I watch Foust on YouTube talking about the CCX and he knew nothing about it except it was at the end of the movie "Redline." LOL!!!

There you have it in a nutshell.

How long will it take before the US show has its first fart joke? I give it 3 episodes.

I also think the majority of Americans are not into automobiles as the Europeans are.

Had no idea that Adam Carolla had a BRE Datsun 510 - that makes him up in my book. May be he'll bring the "juggies" from the Man Show with him.

Watch to see who the major sponsors of the show are. If it is one of the car manufacturers then it will be like the car magazine - ad dollars are more important than editorial honesty.

BOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! they are going to ruin the image of Top Gear and make the US version like dumb. I can't wait to see what the UK Top Gear willhave to say about the US version.

I can't wait to give it a chance. Adam is going to have to carry the whole show IMO. I have watched the other two on cable. Supercars show & the Home improvement shows the other guy has done. They are not going to pull you in with their personalities like Hammond & Mr. Slow. Just like they fail to pull you in with their previous work. The UK guys have lovable personality flaws that you can count on and out of the blue give you a believable opinion of the cars they drive, even when they differ with one another. I can't see the ex-soap star with the flowing blonde hair drawing me into his opinion.

I don't know about that objectiveness you guys are on about - I wouuld NEVER judge a car from a Clarkson review on top gear UK. Top Gear is all show, no go. It's not objective.
Furthermore, I wouldn't actually go as far as calling Top Gear UK intelligent. I mean, the America-bashing the show's so fond of is not very intelligent, IMO - just as the rest of America-bashing Europe.

I'd have to see the first episode to judge whether the chemistry in this trio is going to work. I'm not sure about the car review content, but the special spots (like a car vs. plane race) should be entertaining. Hopefully it won't turn into a circus.

Sounds good to me. I like Adam Corolla.

I was worried it'd be hosted by Ricky Rudd and Kyle Petty or something.

Adam will make fun of Tanner and mock and make fun of the people that would choose the different cars they test.

    Just might work.

This is what I'm affraid of. I don't think we are ever going to hear, "this car is completely boring and total rubbish" from anyone in the US. Everyone is to scared of offending someone and losing ad revenue in the US.

    Mark

PS: I saw Corolla on some show on Speed reviewing a car and he wasn't bad at all. He at least kept me entertained.

From what can be read on here, this stuff is in high demand, so "telling it how it is" it would only create even more revenue and make it even more popular, I guess...

"Eric Stromer, former construction buidling company owner, DIY home improvement tv host and soap opera star rounds out the hosts for the show. We have no idea who this dude is but should provide some beef-cakiness for the ladies."

    WHAT??!!

    THIS IS THE GUY??!! http://youtube.com/watch?v=AYyBvtO79qY

I wonder if he can even pronounce Koenigsegg.

The U.S. media is very timid. Our best automotive journalist is probably Dan Neill of the LA Times, who won a Pulitzer (unheard of, for an auto journalist), and there was a major controversy a couple years back when he published a very negative review of some GM car (IIRC). GM threatened to pull of its advertising from the newspaper. I read Neill's piece, and frankly the Top Gear UK crew would've laughed -- it was hardly the kind of crucifixion JC (Clarkson, that is...) has done to the new Honda Civic Si, Vauxhall anything, Brabus Merc SL, etc.

Yes I do feel that way. After spending 3 yrs in Italy I feel Europeans enjoy their cars more than Americans. American's show off more.

LOL!!! "All show, no go?" We must be watching different shows. Top Gear is where I learn of the CCR, CCX, Zonda, Atom, etc... Those are all go cars and Clarkson pushes them to their limits. They even have a track for lap time camparing with the same driver. Never has any American auto media used the same track and driver for every car they've tested.

Completely agree with the bolded statment.

I didn't know that was his name. To be honest, "Supercars Exposed" with Foust is perhaps the worst automotive show I've ever seen in my life. Commentary on the last episode I watched went like, "Hey, I'm here in Hawaii, and man, these cars are just awesome; kickin' some serious tail with a Lambo in front of me, a 360 Modena behind me, and I'm in this rompin' stompin' Z06. Just awesome." There's nothing learned, nothing funny, lots about how much stuff costs, near misses for the camera, and it's just embarrassing. Clearly SpeedVision producers do NOT read F chat. (Other posts similarly unflattering.)
