Gary Moore! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1fT-J5WKbE This one is one of the very best and least known solos there ever was. Close your eyes and try not to feel it! I dare you! Enjoy!
Darth...dude...this is going to drive me crazy. Im going to have to put some deep thought into this before posting my choice. (Gary Moore always rocks but will not be my pick)
There are many great, accomplished, guitarists that have their own sound. I have to submit these two Eric Johnson - Cliffs Of Dover http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Sh1P0earDU and Joe Satriani - Surfing With The Alien http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-OK7sS855M
Not so much a list of solos as much as it is a list of songs I feel are the among the best examples of each guitarists talent. Jimi Hendrix - 'Red House - Live at Randall's Island: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPEE2zOIoag Eric Clapton - 'Old Love': http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-axOgiuo8Ec Jeff Beck - 'Cause We've Ended as Lovers': http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msPiKYuuRiQ Dire Straits (Mark Knopfler) - 'Brothers in Arms' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8M9U1OU0MzU Stevie Ray Vaughn - 'Lenny': http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEp2QLicd9Y Joe Satriani - 'Rubina': http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ku4o6lULcbY
Some great solos listed here but my favourite by far: Clapton's solos on Crossroads from Cream's Wheels of Fire album. It is live, no overdubs and completely unbelievable. I think Joe Walsh also said it was the greatest solo he's ever heard. I am also very fond of Clapton's solo on the Beatles' While My Guitar Gently Weeps. He did it on a beautiful Les Paul which he later gave to George as a present. Speaking of Les Pauls, Gary Moore has one of the greatest tones I've ever heard. Vintage Les Paul + vintage Marshall + talented fingers = perfection.
Probably my favorite guitar solo of all time is the duelling guitar's of Doyle Bramhall II and Snowy White from Roger Water's 'In The Flesh' concert: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HH2nTo_c8qw.
Some oldies but goodies Akira Takasaki - Exploder http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zxDJ4XfqN2k Van Halen - Spanish Fly http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yVg2ZNF5_tc
As a guitarist this has been difficult. There are too many criteria that can be used to describe 'best' so Im going to stick to my personal favorite solos that no matter how many times I hear move me. Also no more than one solo per artist. UFO (M.Schenker) - Electric Phase Pink Floyd (D.Gilmoure) - Comfortably Numb Led Zeppelin (J. Page) - The Song Remains The Same Eagles (J.Walsh) - Hotel California Ozzy Osbourne (R. Rhoades) - Mr. Crowley Judas Priest (G.Tipton K. Downing) - Painkiller Queensryche (C. Degarmo) - Suite Sister Mary Megadeth (D. Mustaine M. Friedman) - Hanger 18 Rush (A. Lifeson) - 2112 Yngwie J Malmsteen ( Y. Malmsteen) - Blackstar Scorpions (R. Schenker M. Jabs) - Rock You Like A Hurricane Iron Maiden ( A.Smith D. Murray ) - Hallowed Be Thy Name Van Halen (E. Van Halen) - Mean Street Lynyrd Skynyrd (A.Collins) - Free Bird Deep Purple (R. Blackmore) - Knockin At Your Back Door Guns N Roses (Slash) - November Rain Ted Nugent (T.Nugent) - Stranglehold Journey (N.Schon) - Any Way You Want It
Good thread. I have listened to a lot of guitarists over the years and to my ears I prefer the guys who are very melodic and musical vs. just being fast. Eric Johnson is AWESOME at that. So is Robert Marcello. He is guitarist for Danger Danger and is a Roland artist so you can meet him at the Roland booth at most big guitar shows. I also like Dave Cleavland and Rhett Butler is pretty awesome too. I also like Joe Satriani but I think he should loose the glasses...they make him look like a bug! LOL! Does not seem to affect his guitar playing though! Great links everyone! Love them! Best, James
Jason Becker, "Perpetual Burn". Check out the whole CD. I have thousands of favorite solos but, this is a guitar album that I recommend is a most have to any guitar fanatic or player. And it also goes to help his battle against ALS.
The two guitarists from Dragonforce are crazy.. Here's a video if you've never heard it from Guitar Hero http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pceb2h9iKIk
There are TOO many I like and would 'rate' as a top solo. But the One solo by Kirk Hammett ranks up there I reckon. Image Unavailable, Please Login
