What's the fastest you have personally driven your 3x8? Of course we have to go with "indicated" speed +-.

120mph in 80' GTBi on I-10 but only for about 1 mile.

You can tell I'm old, short blasts to 80-85 once in a while. Definitely not like my youth doing long stints at 135 on S or H rated tires (lucky to be alive). Going to jail and B$G tickets just seem too high of a price.

I've had my 83 QV up to 135 mph. If feels good, no shimmeys or anything strange. In the US we probably think thats a big deal. If there is anyone that can tell us their European speeds that would be cool! And yes the ticket and jail time that would follow getting cought at those speeds would not be fun here in the US.

Given that this is the Internet, I can say I've done 65 mph indicated speed in my 328 on the freeway.

I think the top I've hit is 90 on a freeway onramp. I didn't buy this car to go fast - I have more fun
just working through the gears and listening to the beautiful noise around town. If I want to go fast
I'll do it in the Mercedes, where I've got 16 airbags and a 1 year old suspension, with the thingy that
will call an ambulance if I hit a tree.

Same here, but at least in Florida the indicated highway speed is 70 MPH.

Indicated 145 on my '89 328 in NV/AZ last August on the "delivery" trip from buying the car in Las Vegas and driving it to MD. The car is very much one of those "The faster it goes the faster it wants to go."

If I were a betting man, I'd bet my car has seen 127 with the windows down and sunroof open.

Somewhere around 100mph on a "parade lap" around Pacific Raceways a few years ago. The fastest any of my cars have gone is 148 (indicated) in my C5 Corvette....I wasn't even in the car at the time, rather my friend was borrowing it and decided to open it up moments after his brother (riding in the passenger seat) said "I don't know, this car isn't that cool." Evidently, his brother apologized and changed his mind.

I hit 128mph indicated in my '69 Corvette (with a 454 big block) at the end of the drag strip about five or six years ago. I think that's about the top speed for me on a track.

In my '80 GTSI I did a little over 120mph at which point I slowed down...I think the car would have gone a bit faster but not too much more unless I had alot of road ahead.....the steering began to feel very "light" and I didn't think that I should push it much more than that.

IMO, the car's "sweet spot" is between 80-90mph where the steering, torque, and brakes are still very responsive...when I approach 100, the dynamics of the car seem to change and I feel that the car has reached it's limits.

I think that people should appreciate the 308's for what they are and not try to fool themselves into thinking that they have a F430.

That said, I wouldn't trade my 308 for anything else.

245 km/h chasing a 599 on a club run. Accelerator still not on the floor. Roof off. He saw us following and sped off....
Another clubmember once remarked that that little 2 valve was hard to keep up with in his QV. And then to think I just have a 2 valve with a little i behind the GTS. I suppose the exhaust does more than just being the loudest in the club but 1.

100mph 83 308 GTS QV ... not a problem. Did not want to push it any higher as have only had the car for about a month and not yet totally familiar with its top end!

Bear in mind the speedos can be quite a bit off.
    I saw that myself today.
GSP had one number, speedo was running quite bit higher.

145 MPH indicated several times in 76 GT4 - with clearly more there - but the front tends to get a bit light at these speeds and our roads are not exactly smooth.

lol. So true Jon. Mark in Germany is the only one who can probaly say 130mph. :D

Actually I hope he has his car ready for next time when I'm back. Would be good to go on the Autobahn for a short stretch.

I hope you are enjoying the new steering wheel spacer Mark. ;)

Of course on public roads the fastest I have been is 70 or so. Without mentioning where....I've had my '78 308 up to about 130 indicated. Have had it to around 120 quite a few times.

I'm surprised a couple folks have said it starts feeling light at fast speeds. Mine doesn't really settle down and feel truly connected to the road until about 80 and it seemed perfectly planted still at 120+.

A 328 is "perfectly planted" at an indicated 145 and acts like it would remain so at anything above that. If it hasn't gotten "light" by 145 it's not going to by it's 155-160 top speed. I had my 996 Porsche 911 to an indicated 155 but it didn't feel any more stable in the 140-150 range than my 328 though it could certainly get to those speeds faster.

My 308 starts to get funky (light over the front wheels) around 120. Perhaps the 328 has better aero with the different front bumper/spoiler. I certainly didn't get the feeling that the car wants to take to flight however, unlike the old '66 MGB GT my brother and I took to 105 in high school and which wanted to go airborne. My brother took his Lotus esprit S4S (highly modified) to 180+ before things started to get funky. My GT40 will do an easy 165 before having to work too hard. In any case, those are all insane speeds for public roads and now being a Dad of 4 I keep it at a steady 65 now....

When I was stationed in Germany back in the 90s I took the Mondial 3.2; it had a tubi, otherwise stock US.

It would pull to redline in all 5 gears on the autobahn, and indicate a little over 155 mph. I stayed planted and easily controllable on Pirelli P6000 tires. It never felt light. Ever. I guess that's because it's $%^& heavy anyway

And, at 7800 rpm in 5th with the tubi, IT WAS JUST SO VERY @#$%^&* LOUD.

While it would max out at about 150 or so, it was frankly happiest around 90-110 where conversation was still possible. On a quick run to Trier from Ramstein, high sustained cruise feels right about 135mph, but it's starting to get pretty loud inside.
