No need for a PPI on this California! Very sad to see this happen. It was reported, the driver was late for a flight! They decided to leave the car and catch the flight. Who does that?

He has insurance. He will come back home from where ever he is going, head on over to the dealer and grab another one. Just a car.. But I would like to have that engine as a coffee table!

I think this owner is screwed... too many photos of his car intentionally driving into the water. Insurance can argue he deliberately attempted to drive without regard for the flooding. Insurance will pick and prod at all costs to avoid a $250k claim!

Unless he can prove that his car was parked, or stationary at the time.

Anyone that would drive their car into deep waters like that needs their vision checked. If their vision checks out ok then they are in trouble because you cant buy common sense.

Toronto has outdated and crumbling infrastructure. They've spent the last 20 years building dense condos but no infrastructure upgrades to support all the new people. Despite very high tax levels, very little has been upgraded or built since 60 years ago. Some rainfall and half the city floods as sewage systems implode. Considering a high income earner in Ontario loses over 50% of their income to taxes this guy should sue the city and province if his insurance company does not pay out.

"Some rain" fall and the city floods????

We had more rain fall in 2 hours then we had in 24 hours of the last hurricane that hit Toronto in 1954. ;)

The underpass that the Ferrari was stuck in had a flaw from day one. The road level is below the lake water line. During construction the storm drains were plugged with inflatable bags. When construction was over the bags were removed and the road immediately flooded. The road was closed and emergency work started to divert the storm drains. Some of you may recall this underpass took an excruciatingly long time to complete. Now you know why.

When I saw the picture I wasn't surprised it flooded.

The city's sewer and storm system has been upgraded quiet considerably over the last 20 - 30 years. The addition of the storm drain system was a major upgrade. However you are correct that the city is growing much faster than the drainage system can keep up.

Keep in mind that this storm was near hurricane levels of rain fall. It can't be expected that a city has systems to keep up with such amounts of rainfall in such a short amount of time. In fact bridges and the system are built to what's called a 100 year flood rule. That it will be expected the system can handle one major flood every hundred years and then will need to be replaced. The city still has 2 major storm dumps at the lake, if it overflows like it did last night everything dumps into the lake to stop the 100 year flood.

If these fail safes did not work last night Toronto would have made Calgary look like a someone's toilet overflowed.

50% Of Toronto's water supply comes from infrastructure built in the 1930's. The last major upgrades took place in the 1950's. People are convinced that Ontario has modern infrastructure when the opposite is true, it is busting at the seams. Look how slow the public transport is if you even have access to it. Its incredible how far Ontario has fallen behind other nations.

Toronto literally was a toilet yesterday.

Ontario is heading into second world status pretty quickly. This last flood was just a reminder of that, almost the entire city was paralyzed. Ignoring huge rainfall, you can cut off 1 -2 transport arteries and the entire city is in a standstill. Yes its that bad.

My initial point was if this unlucky fellow won't get insurance paid out he has every right to sue the government. I'm pretty sure he's paid way more then his "fair share" and gets nothing for it. Toronto is one of the few major cities that does not even have a rapid transit system connecting to its airport. He was forced to dump his car into the toilet known as the Tdot.

I understand your initial point. I'm sure it will get thrown out of court if his lawyer doesn't tell him to save his money first.

Yes the water supply is old, but it has been going through a refurbishment through re-lining them over the last decade.

The system is PURPOSE BUILT to dump raw sewage into the lake if it over flows. Do you have any idea how much water fell last night? How in the world would any system anywhere in the world be able to contain that much volume? No where. Would you rather they plug it and all of our basements become the cities overflow basins?... Think

London England their sewers are almost 200 years old the New York sewers150 years old, where do you think their overflow goes.

**** rolls down hill man and at some point it will hit the lake.

Yea people got stuck and wet. Yes a few arteries were closed and things came to a stand still. Hell I lost power for 7 hours.
    Big deal, no one died.

Last night was an extreme, to use it as an example of a crumbling city is a bit much. Yes there are problems, huge ones, but using it as another political spring board is silly. I think things went pretty well, but there are always those that are never satisfied.

I think that, when you consider the sheer volume of rain that fell in such a short time, Toronto did pretty well, actually. I was amazed to see the water level of my pool rise so quickly. Before supper all was fine. After supper the water level was 5 cm above the skimmer. Just incredible.
